"Are you really not going to tell me where we're going?" Crawford had practically dragged me to the car, a smirk on his face and I knew that could never be good. "If not, I'm going to assume this is a kidnapping and I might just open the door and jump out. Keep in mind, my death would be on your hands."

"Please, I'm going under twenty miles an hour, you wouldn't die," he chuckled, squeezing my knee and letting his hand rest on my leg, rubbing his thumb over it absently.

I glanced out my window at the never-ending fields and trees I had been seeing for miles now. I couldn't imagine what would be out in the middle of nowhere that Crawford would be interested in. He turned down a narrow dirt road, and I squinted against the sun to look out the windshield, but Crawford removed his hand from my knee and placed it over my eyes.

"Okay, you have to keep them closed from now on or you'll ruin the surprise!"

"A surprise in the woods can never be a good surprise," I whined, but Crawford made me promise to not peek.

The car stopped and I heard his door open, followed by mine being opened, and he led me a few steps away before I felt him lean close to my ear. "Okay, open."

In front of us was a gorgeous river cutting through a field of wildflowers and tall willow trees dotted throughout. My breath caught at how beautiful it was, like something straight out of a movie, and Crawford laughed at my delight.

"Worth the wait?" I could only nod and he grabbed my hand, leading me closer to the edge of the river. "The temperature should be perfect to swim and I brought lunch so we can stay here all day," he explained.

"That sounds perfect except I don't have a bathing suit," I frowned but, of course, Crawford had thought of everything and had one in the backseat for me. After changing in the back of the car, I watched Crawford who was already halfway in the water. "Is it cold?"

"A little at first. Come on," he said, reaching his hand out for mine, but I ignored it and dipped one toe in.

"That's freezing! We're going to get frostbite!" Crawford playfully rolled his eyes at my exaggerated behavior and reached for my hand again. "No, you're just going to pull me in!"

"Not true," he said, a sheepish smile on his face as he backtracked and joined me on the grass. "I just wanted to hold your hand."

"Yeah right," I mumbled, dipping the rest of my foot in the water with shivers running down my spine. "Crawf, it's way too cold."

He didn't reply and I looked over to see him looking past me with a smile on his face. "Look at that," he said, already walking away towards a tree with a rope tied around a branch.

I rolled my eyes and followed him, watching him tug on the rope and peer up at the branch. "We have no idea how long that's been there," I warned, but the rope was already in his hands and he was backing up to get a running start. "May I remind you of Bridge to Terabithia?"

Crawford shook his head and gestured for me to move out of his way and he was already in the water before I could deter him anymore. He resurfaced with a wide smile, rubbing water from his eyes and squinting against the sun to look up at me. "See, it's safe! Come on!"

He looked like an ant that far away, and I backed up farther. "No way!"

He swam back to the grass, making his way back up to me and taking the rope from my hands. "Come on (Y/N), I promise it's fun," he said.

"I'm sure it is but I'd rather go home alive," I was explaining, and before I could get out of the way, he ran to the edge grabbing me on his way past and launching us off the hill.

We both bobbed to the surface, laughing, and Crawford raised his eyebrows at me. "You were saying?"

We spent the next few hours swimming and lounging in the sun. I was absently picking wildflowers and weaving them together which was very intriguing to Crawford.

"How do you do that?" He was laying on his stomach with his head propped in his hands, watching me twist the flowers.

I shrugged and smiled at his interest. "I guess I was a lonely kid," I giggled, and Crawford rolled his eyes, picking a flower from my pile and trying to copy my actions. I finished my crown and plopped it on his head. "What a pretty boy."

"Oh I already know it," he said with a wink, abandoning his flowers and pecking my lips. "We should probably pack up before it gets dark."

Back in the car I leaned over the console and kissed him, making him smile. "This was perfect," I said and he squeezed my hand tightly.

"Anything for you. It was so much fun," he said with a smile.
