Summary: Mat doesn't want the date to end so soon, the two spend some time in a wal-mart parking lot

Requested: no

It wasn't often that Mat and Y/N got to spend time together, with his hockey schedule being the top priority and the girl often finding herself swamped with work or studies, there was little time for them to use just to focus on their relationship. Which is why tonight was so special.

It was the first night that Y/N and Mat both had off and they intended on making the most of it.

Dinner went by pretty quickly, the two of them had dressed up a little more than usual and gone to an upscale restaurant in the city. Y/N had been wanting to try it for months but wouldn't let herself take such a purchase without a reason. So what better reason than date night? Mat had picked her up in his new Cadillac , a total gentlemen as he opened the door for her and greeted her with a kiss.

Mat was always a gentlemen, whether it was picking up the cheque at restaurants or just having flowers delivered to Y/N's work on occasion, he always made sure that his girl knew how much he cared. He was a great man.

As the pair walked out of the restaurant, Mat had his arm wrapped around Y/N's waist- taking in her beautiful figure, a nice pair of jeans and top matched with some heels and a fancier jacket that kept her warm during the cooled off evening. The valet pulled the car up and the couple climbed into the vehicle- driving off into the night, the sun had set hours ago and unfortunately the day was ending.

"So, when do we get to do this again?" Mat asked softly. When he heard a sigh next to him and glanced at the pout forming on his girlfriend's lips, he knew that he wasn't going to like the following answer. "I have a big project coming up at work, might be a while.. maybe two weeks?" She suggested, she knew that it wasn't going to be easy- after all, they had been dealing with this for the last six months of their relationship.

In a way, Y/N felt guilty. When she had first started seeing Matthew, she was working a part time job that gave her odd hours, but she was always available. However, now that she was working full time at a higher paying job, she was a lot busier. Adding school on top of that, there was little time left for her to do anything else.

Mat had been working a lot harder on the ice too, he had been booking himself extra ice time to keep up his skills, spending more time at the gym and just doing his best to be a better player. They were seeing less and less of each other. "I don't know... I leave for that week long roadie in two weeks." He reminded her.

Y/N frowned, taking his hand over the centre console of the car, she knew that he was going to just end up dropping her off at home and heading to his own place. He had practice in the morning and then a game. Neither of them knew how long it would be until they saw one another again. "Maybe when I get back?" Mat suggested, a hopeful smile raising to his lips.

Noticing how Y/N grinned sheepishly, he sighed frustratedly. "You have the business trip the following Tuesday... I totally forgot." He mumbled, rubbing his jaw as they stopped at a red light. Y/N could see how hard he was trying, neither of them wanted to end their relationship, there was no thought of them breaking up- they loved each other too much to let some distance and scheduling get between them.

"Its okay babe, we'll figure it out." Y/N reassured him, leaning over and kissing his cheek- her lips were warm against his skin and mat couldn't help but blush.

The radio was humming, guitar strings and a soft violin in the back making a melody that brought a smile to Y/N's face. Her head was leaning against the window and she closed her eyes tiredly. The glow from the dashboard brightened up the couple's face. As mat took a glance towards his girlfriend, he couldn't help but feel a pit in his stomach form.

Mat suddenly swerved the car, pulling off the road and into an empty wal-mart parking lot. It was beyond late at night that there were only a couple of cars left, a security car that obviously worked at the store and them maybe some late night employees. "What are you doing?" Y/N asked, a furrow creasing in her brow. She sat up and looked around.

As the hockey player parked the car underneath the neon sign, he climbed out and smiled. "Get out." He grinned, reaching into the car and turning up the radio- instantly the bass started to become heavier, Y/N chuckling at his antics- she still wasn't entirely sure what he was up to. Getting out, her heels clicked over the asphalt.

Taking her hand, Mat grinned and pulled her close- the melody fading behind them into the background. "I don't want the night to end yet... I'm not going to see you for almost a month... so we're gonna make tonight last." He promised her. His hands found their place, one on the low of her back while the other took her hand and raised it to shoulder height.

Swaying in time with the music, Y/N couldnt help but feel her chest swarm with butterflies. Her eyes were filled with adoration and she knew in that moment that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Mathew. "Okay..." she smiled at him, her voice as soft as the breeze drifting across the city. Resting her head against his shoulder, Y/N stayed close to mat- his firm body against hers as they melted together, as if there was no such things as time and they had no responsibilities.

They spent what felt like hours in that parking lot, dancing to the radio and swaying back and forth- even if there wasn't a slow song on the radio, they floated around the parking lot, crossing the painted lines and parking spots, almost falling over a few times as they ended up starting to laugh.

If it hadn't been for the security guard rolling up next to them in his car and asking them to leave, Mat knew that he and Y/N could have stayed there until sunrise. But nonetheless, they headed the warning of the security guard and got back into the car- never having been more in love as they made it back to Y/N's apartment. "Stay the night..." she took his hand. "You can leave early in the morning... but I don't wanna sleep alone tonight." She smiled at him.

Mathew parked the car and followed her up, he didn't need to be told twice. Maybe they could move in together, it was about time, they had been together long enough and after tonight, the man knew that he didn't want to ever be away from her again. Falling under the covers, he held Y/N close to his chest- kissing her softly before the two of them fell asleep.

No matter what happened, they would find a way to be together, of that, Mathew was sure.
