Summary: Matthew is dating an oiler's fan who refuses to wear his jersey.

Based on prompt #4 from 'prompt list 2.0'

Y/N was a strong woman. She could handle a lot of things, but her boyfriend Matthew seemed to always find a way to get on her nerves. She was resilient, but somehow the man knew exactly what buttons to push and what made her tick. It was what he did best and in all honesty, sometimes it made Y/N second guess her relationship with him.

The two of them had met a year prior at a coffee shop just outside of rogers place arena. Calgary was in town to play against the hometown and Y/N just so happened to be grabbing a coffee before the game. She was wearing oilers gear and like the gentlemen he is, Matthew couldn't help but take the opportunity to chirp at her.

"Oilers fan huh? I hope you don't mind losing tonight." He smirked- standing behind the woman who was a couple of inches shorter than him. Turning around, Y/N locked eyes on him- while the initial shock of seeing a hockey player hit her, she covered it up quite well- pulling off the best poker face Matthew had ever seen. "Why don't you focus on playing the game? You know instead of sitting in the penalty box." She knew how to hold her own.

Matthew was like a rat, he was annoying and irritated Y/N. But sometimes he was cute and even loveable.

While the two waited for their coffees, Matthew made short conversation- it was mainly just filled with the two of them chirping one another and poking fun. But somehow the flames player had managed to score the woman's number. It came with a rule though. "Only call me if you win." Y/N chuckled- leaving the shop before him and not bothering to look back, even though she really wanted to.

If she had, she would have locked gazes with Matthew- who was watching the woman walk away. Something about her had captured his attention and he felt a fire fill his chest- now they had to win.

All through the game, Matthew was searching for Y/N- he knew that she was glass seats, and when he finally spotted her next to the flames penalty box, he couldn't help but smirk to himself. Getting into a fight gave him long enough to start a conversation with her. He knew that his attention should have been on the game, but instead he was focused on the fiery oilers player.

As he skated into the box and sat down, he couldn't help but smirk at the woman's reaction. "Just couldn't stay away from me huh?" She yelled over the glass. Matthew rolled his eyes and didn't bother to hide his fond emotions over seeing her again. "Its too boring out there! I would much rather be here with you!" He chuckled.

The woman tossed her head back with a laugh- giving him a playful glare. The oilers were down by three and Y/N already knew that this game was not going to be placing a victory under the home team's belt. There wasn't enough time left in the third period for them to make a comeback with how they were playing. The oilers would be lucky if they managed to even get one goal- but three just to tie? It seemed impossible.

Y/N looked down at her drink and took a deep breath. Tilting her head to the side, she thought of what to say next- Matthew only had about 10 seconds left on his penalty and then he would be back onto the ice. "I guess I'll be expecting your call." She winked at him.

Barrelling out of the penalty box like a mad man, Matthew managed to pick up the puck- taking it down to the oiler's zone and firing it into the back of the net behind Mikko. Y/N threw her hands in the air, slightly in distress, due to her team falling behind by yet another point. But her disappointment was quickly erased by the look Matthew sent her, pointing in her direction and winking before he went for a shift change.

As soon as the Game ended, the flames rushed onto the ice to celebrate, leaving a bunch of unhappy oilers players and Edmonton fans. As Y/N packed up her things and started making her way from the arena, her phone buzzed within a matter of minutes- she had just made it threw security and out towards the train when it lit up with Matthew's name.

"I told you you would lose." He purred into the phone- chuckling softly, Y/N could barely hear him, so sneaking away from her friends- she stepped into the bathroom where she could hear him clearer. "You don't need to rub it in... Whats up?" She asked him. Surely he would be busy after the game, she didn't think he would actually have time to talk to her.

Matthew chuckled over the line. "Come out for drinks with me yeah? The team is going to meet at some bar called Kelly's." He mentioned- he was cocky, but in his chest he wasn't sure if Y/N would actually show up. He liked her, but he had a pretty nasty reputation- he could be a jerk and honestly there was a good chance she didn't want anything long distance.

But when he came into the bar and saw Y/N sitting with her friend at the bar- his adrenaline only spiked. He was beyond excited to see that she had actually taken him up on his offer. She even ditched the oilers jersey.

That night was one filled of many memories and laughs, Matthew managed to not be a total asshole for a change.

Now that they had been dating for over a year, Y/N knew that night was a rare occurrence. Matthew had done everything in his power to convince the girl that her team of choice sucked and that she would have a lot more fun cheering for him on the flames.

While she always supported Matthew in everything he did- she refused to wear a flames jersey. That was until tonight. Matthew had been having a rough time lately, he was stressed with the playoffs coming closer and he was starting to get in his own head. Y/N had moved to Calgary to live with Matthew a little under a month ago and one of her home welcoming presents what a jersey with his name on it.

She had yet to wear it, but tonight seemed like the perfect time. She was meeting Matthew at the rink before the game and she had planned a special evening. She couldn't guarantee that they would win- but she was sure that after matt saw her all dolled up and wearing his name, he would work extra hard and get his groove back.

Putting on a pair of jeans that hugged her um perfectly and showed off her long legs, Y/N hummed- she was quite happy with her appearance, her eyeliner looked awesome- her foundation was flawless and her hair had the most perfect waves she had ever done. It was a sign. Wearing a pair of white tennis shoes and a white hoodie underneath, She couldn't help but feel like a traitor as she slid the flames jersey over her figure.but it did look rather cute. She was Tkachuk's girl and the whole internet knew- it was about time she acknowledged it.

Making her way to the rink, she hopped out of the uber and texted Matthew. Letting him know that she made it on time. They had about 40 mins before warm ups so he was able to come out and see her. Making her way to the locker rooms, Y/N rounded the corner and bumped into a firm chest. Matthew was smiling down at her and instantly he felt his chest swell with pride.

"Now this is a nice surprise." He chuckled, wrapping his arms around her- tracing his name with his hands, he had her do a spin before swooping down and kissing her lips. "Thank you baby..." he purred softly. Y/N laughed and pulled away. "You get this for one night." She pointed a finger into his chest.

Her plan seemed to work, the flames won by a landslide and Matthew was in a great mood- the best he had been in weeks. When they finally went home together, he couldn't keep his hands off of Y/N. He refused to let Y/N take the jersey off.

As he laid in bed with his head against the wall and arms propped behind him, he watched as Y/N started to get undressed for bed- "Leave the jersey on..." he mumbled softly, the girl turned around and laughed. "What?" She asked, cheeks flaming with a slight red tinge.

Matthew hummed and and that cocky smirk upon his lips. "I'm taking a mental picture..." he told her- his eyes trailing over her figure. Y/N rolled her eyes and gave him a spin. "Thats a memory babe." She walked over and crawled onto the bed, straddling his hips and kissing him deeply.

As they rolled under the sheets, Matthew was sure that he would get the girl to wear the jersey again. After all, there was nothing more he loved than seeing his name on her back.
