Summary: she wasn't his best friend, she wasn't his worst friend either- she was just in the background of his life wishing to be anything but that.

It was almost comical how much pain and suffering Y/N had put herself through. It wasn't like she was close with Tyson, she was barely close with the other friends that he had. But somehow, she was always invited over to his house when there was a party, and tonight was no exception. If it wasn't for the cup of water that she had been nursing all night, Y/N could have sworn that the heat in her cheeks was due to the various kinds of alcohol Tyson had put out against his makeshift bar in the kitchen. As easy as she could have blamed it on being tipsy, Y/N knew that she was more than sober. Her back was pressed to the wall in the corner as her eyes filtered around the party nervously. She had come on her own accord per Tyson's invitation, yet she barely knew anyone that was there- she talked with the few girls that she did know when she first got there, but sooner or later their boyfriends and girlfriends were pulling them away to dance. She was just by herself, sitting in the background watching as the party seemed to buzz around her. The lights overhead were dim, seemingly that the party host wanted to keep things darker and more intimate- It made her strangely comfortable. The fact that no one could see just how awkward she was being. Her arms were tucked to her sides and she all but stared into her cup as people danced and passed around her. She hated this. She shouldn't be so nervous- she had been invite, all she had to do was go talk with someone and take herself out of the situation. In reality there was only one person that Y/N wanted to talk to. It was Tyson. She didn't know him well, but that didn't mean that he never failed to make her heart race whenever he was near- there was something about him that just knocked Y/N to the floor. She couldn't understand how one man could be so kind and generous and just all around great- surely there had to be some type of flaw, but if there was, Y/N had yet to find it. As if he sensed her thinking about him, Tyson suddenly rounded the corner with a drink in hand and a smile on his face. "What? I don't throw a good party?' He laughed, leaning against the wall next to her as he noticed how tense she seemed. Immediately Y/N felt like she was going to get sick, her voice was caught in her throat and her spine went rigid. "Oh no no, the party is great- I guess I'm just not in the mood quite yet." She tried to brush off with a laugh, which she immediately regretted, although it sounded fine, Y/N couldn't help but think she sounded fake or like a dying cat- did Tyson think that too?- she wondered. The man smiled apologetically. "Well we might as well change that then yeah?" He suggested, leading Y/N over to his friends he introduced her once again as if they had never met her before- everyone talked to her and did their best to make her feel comfortable, and for a while Y/N actually thought that she was having fun. She stayed pretty close to Tyson's group while he did his mingling, the guys and girls kept her involved in the conversations and even included her in a few games of beer pong. When Tyson returned he seemed to be getting tired and Y/N tried to make a joke. "Past your bedtime Tys?" She smiled happily- having consumed a few drinks now, she was actually leaning towards being tipsy. Tyson chuckled softly and shook his head. "I'll let you know when my bed time is sweetheart." He winked- Y/N felt like she had been punched in the chest, with one simple flirtatious phrase, he was able to completely terrify her and excite her at the same time. She rolled her eyes playfully, hoping that Tyson hadn't taken notice of how flustered she was. "Yeah- you do that." She hummed. For a while Y/N had excused herself from the group and gone to sit on the couch in Tyson's living room to relax a bit. She needed to take a breather before the next round of beer bong. After losing several times- she had more beer in her system than she could handle. Just as she had started to doze off slightly, she felt the seat next to her dip. "You feeling alright?" A familiar voice whispered, hand brushing against her shoulder. Tyson looked at her with a worried gaze and pouted. Y/N smiled. "Yeah just a little drunk." she chuckled. Tyson laughed, his cheeks red. "Me too." He sighed. "Why don't you stay the night here? I can make you breakfast in the morning?" He suggested, standing up and holding out a hand to her- it was at this point that YN had realized the party was completely over- everyone was gone and there was an absence in music. "You sure? I can just call a cab." She said quickly, suddenly realizing that she had almost fallen asleep on his couch and he was probably waiting for her to leave. Tyson shook his head. "No no- its not safe- after all, you can help me clean up in the morning." He smirked. Letting out a scoff, the girl suddenly realized that he wasn't kidding. "Yeah yeah sure... do you have a guest room?" She asked. Tyson frowned. "Some of the guys stayed over and are passed out in there- I thought you could just sleep in my room?" He suggested. Well... that certainly wasn't what Y/N had been expecting, but in her slightly drunk and still sleepy haze she shrugged it off and agreed- They walked through his place and towards his bedroom, making sure to avoid the people that were passed out on the floor and the various empty beer bottles around the kitchen. As the bedroom door closed behind them, Y/N felt Tyson's stare on the back of her neck. She turned and noticed him looking at her nervously. "Is everything okay?" She asked. Tyson nodded, pushing his hands into his pockets as he walked towards her hesitantly. "Would it be okay if I kissed you?" He asked softly, one of his hands reaching out to slide against her hips. Y/N stiffened, she barely knew him at the beginning of the night but now he wanted to kiss her? Y/N nodded hesitantly. "Yeah= its okay." She told him, letting him move closer. His lips were soft at first, pressing against Y/N's chapped lips. The scruff from his beard tickled her skin and she wondered how long it had been since he shaved last- the texture was rough and almost burned her as it nipped at her jaw. Tyson's grip tightened as Y/N kissed him back- pushing her tongue into his mouth and tangling her fingers into his hair. Smiling faintly, the two of them danced around the room as if there was music playing- they swayed back and forth and turned gracefully, like time was slipping away from them and the only thing that mattered was one another's presence. The kiss grew needy, Tyson making quick work of the zipper on the back of Y/N's dress while she pulled his shirt over his head. They fell back onto his bed and Y/N couldn't help but giggle- they quickly rid each other of their clothes, the articles of clothing forming a small pile in the corner of his room. For a moment Y/N stared up at him and used the moment to catch her breath. "You okay?" Tyson asked from above her, but it wasn't his voice coming out of his mouth- Furrowing her brows in confusion, Y/N listened as he asked again- suddenly the walls around her shifted and the music from the party returned. Tyson's bedroom turned into the living room downstairs and Y/N felt a hand press to her shoulder- turning to the side, she saw her friend. "Yeah I am-" she tried to talk, looking around for Tyson. Her eyes landed on him across the room, where he stood playing beer pong- a short reddish toned haired girl under his arm. She never went to bed with him, he had never even come over and talked to her- Y/N had been watching from afar all this time, imagining a life that she would never have with Tyson- because she was invisible. She was a friend of his and nothing more- if you could even call her that. She was just a shadow and that was all she would ever be.
