Iceland (Emil Steilsson) x Reader

Cold met his fingers when he stretched out on his bed in search of his partner. Emil opened his eyes to blearily stare at the empty space in the bed next to him. He unconsciously grabbed the cold bed sheets as his brain slowly began to wake up and process everything. A subtle smell of food drifted into the bedroom and Emil stretched in an effort to rid himself of the tiredness. He absentmindedly ran through his morning routine and made his way into the kitchen. He leaned against the doorway to bask in the sight of his wife humming an unfamiliar tune as she made breakfast. She failed to notice him as she remained focused solely on not burning the bacon.

Emil smiled softly at the scene before taking a place at the dining table where he found a glass of coffee placed for him "Good morning." (Y/N) startled and turned to look over at him "When did you get up?" "Twenty minutes ago" he replied, and enjoyed the feeling of warmth in his chest when he sipped his coffee. She sighed softly and turned back to watching the food "I wanted to surprise you with breakfast in bed." Pink dusted his cheeks in embarrassment "Sorry. I didn't mean to ruin the surprise." She shook her head and sent him a warm smile "It's okay! Now we can have a nice breakfast together!" He hummed in acknowledgement and turned his attention to watch her rush around the kitchen. He briefly wondered if he should help her, but lost his train of thought when a blur of black and white rushed past him.

The fluttering of wings blew wind in his face and Emil wrinkled his nose at the sensation. "Good morning to you too" he muttered as he stared at the puffin who he swore plotted to murder him in his sleep. The puffin turned his head away at the rude greeting "I should be addressed properly." "You don't deserve a proper greeting" Emil remarked, irritation growing at the look on the puffin's face. (Y/N) sighed softly at the sight as she placed Emil's breakfast in front of him "Emil that's not nice." "He started it!" "I did not!" The animal cried out, staring at the food on Emil's plate with a dangerous look. Emil shifted his plate away from the animal as (Y/N) sat across from him with a light laugh "I'll never understand why you guys talk to each other like that. You two obviously care about each other." Mr. Puffin squawked at the accusation and Emil's cheeks grew warm "That's not true." She chuckled and raised her hands in mock defence "Alright I'm sorry. I should know that you two despise each other." Mr. Puffin nodded in approval and made his way over to the plate (Y/N) created for him.

Emil sighed and took another sip of his coffee to calm down the irritation Mr. Puffin always gave him. (Y/N) discussed what she did during her morning and what she planned to do for the rest of the day. Emil listened fondly as he ate his breakfast. She paused when she noticed his empty plate and a smile formed on her face "Did you enjoy it?" He focused his attention on his empty coffee mug and hummed in affirmation. Her smile grew "I'm glad! I worked really hard on that this morning." He smiled in response and waited for her to finish her breakfast before he started doing the dishes. (Y/N) stood up in protest but he shook her head and told her to stay seated at the table "You made breakfast. I should clean it up." She reluctantly agreed.

A phone buzzed and (Y/N) glanced down to read over her notifications. "Oh Emil I forgot to tell you that Lukas and the others are coming over today" she commented, quickly replying to the message. Emil sighed "Tell them we're busy today." "I would, but they're already outside" she explained, trying to hide her smile when he froze. It felt like she could see the wheels turning in his head. He relented and dried his hands on the towel "Alright then. There's nothing we can do about it." (Y/N) planted a kiss on his cheeks "It'll be great." Pink bloomed on his cheeks and he silently made his way over to the door.

He opened it to stare at the various expressions on his family members faces. "Emil!" Mathias and Tino shouted, rushing in to envelope him in a tight hug. He spluttered at the contact, but relented when it became apparent they wouldn't release him. "Let him go" Lukas commented, and the two reluctantly agreed. "Hello Lukas" Emil greeted, before turning to the last guest "and Berwald." They both nodded in greeting and (Y/N) hugged Emil from behind. Emil sighed fondly and joined his guests in the living room.
