Netherlands (Lars Van De Berg) x Reader

Busy chatter filled the dainty shop as Lars scanned the dessert options. He settled on a confectionary treat he assumed (Y/N) would like and exited the shop and entered the busy streets of his nation. He listened to the different voices communicating in different languages. The variety of sounds calmed him down as he attempted to hear each distinct voice that was visiting him or a part of his nation. He arrived at his small flat and the door swung open to reveal a bright-eyed (Y/N) with an equally bright smile on her face. He stepped back in mild surprise and his grip on the pastry box tightened. "Lars! Guess what happened!" She exclaimed, stepping back to allow him to enter the house. He hummed in thought as he stripped himself of his long jacket and sneakers "Good or bad?" "Good!" She stated, practically bouncing on her feet as she impatiently waited for him to take a guess at the good news.

He wrapped his arms around her from behind and leaned his chin on her head "Is it work?" "Yeah" she replied, stopping her restless jumping to lean a bit into his warmth, "Are you going to continue with the 20 questions?" He huffed in amusement "No. I'll take a guess. Promotion?" (Y/N) nodded and quickly escaped his warm embrace "I got promoted!" Lars smiled softly at her and handed her the pastry box "Congratulations." She eagerly grabbed the box and peered inside "Did you know already?" "No. Just figured I'd get one for you" he explained, smiling slightly at the happy expression on her face. She sighed and placed a soft kiss on his lips "I'm going to miss you when I'm in Japan." Lars froze at the words. At first, he thought of Kiku, and then quickly realized she meant she'd be living in the country.

Silence loomed over them and (Y/N) looked up at him in confusion. "Is something wrong Lars?" She asked, frowning at the slight crinkle in his brow. "What do you mean by Japan?" He asked, his voice coming out softer than he was used to. He didn't quite know how to process the information. "I'm moving to Japan for work. Did I not tell you?" She explained, reaching out to place a gentle hand on his arm. He moved his arm to grip her hand in his "No you didn't." "Oh," she gently breathed out, worry evident on her face "I'm sorry. I thought I did." He remained silent and she continued "We can still keep in touch. We'll text every day, video message when we can, and maybe when you go to visit Kiku, you could stop by to see me? Lars, this is really important to me." "I know" he replied, smiling softly at her "Let's talk about this over dinner." She smiled in relief at the lack of tension "Okay. Let's do that." Lars allowed her to drag him into their quaint dining room.

Centuries later Lars roamed the streets of his nation. His gaze landed upon a dainty pastry shop, a small hazy memory floating to the top of his mind. He could see a blurry outline of a person, but he couldn't quite place the smaller details or the name of them. All he could feel was his chest squeezing in pain and the prick of tears fighting to spill out of his eyes. He shook his head and entered the small shop. The owner greeted him and he nodded and smiled back in reply. He picked out a confectionary treat and exited the shop a few moments later after some idle chatter with the shop owner. He calmly roamed the street and observed his surroundings. Different languages floated through the air and he stifled a smile at the enthusiasm he heard in the tourists and residents' voices as they explored his nation. He lifted his head to gaze upon the pale blue sky covered partially by white clouds.

His walking was stopped by the feeling of a body crashing into him. He stumbled and managed to right himself before falling. He looked down and felt his heart stop at the sight. A female stood below him as she muttered out an apology. However, he couldn't quite focus on the sound of her voice as he took in her appearance. She looked familiar to him, but he couldn't place a name to her face. His heart beat wildly in his chest as he continued to gaze down at her. He ignored the stinging in his eyes as he wracked his brain for a possible answer "Do I know you?" She watched him in confusion "I'm sorry but I've never seen you before. I'm also sorry for bumping into you." She glanced down at her watch "I really have to go. Sorry." He watched her run away with an odd ache in his chest.

Notes:

Prompt: Forgotten.

In Japan, she cuts off all communication with him.

He's forgotten her, but never forgot his feelings for her and the pain he felt when she left

The female at the end looks like (Y/N), but it's not her

I hope you enjoyed this
