Austria (Roderich Edelstein) x Reader

Roderich roamed the halls of the hospital in search of room number 103. He had come to visit Feliciano after he managed to break his leg during a workout with Ludwig. Roderich sighed as the numbers continued to rise rather than decrease to his desired number. He had gotten lost in the small hospital. The sound of a piano drifted throughout the halls and Roderich's ears picked up the sound. He followed the melody into a small room filled with a variety of instruments. His violet gaze watched the female seated on the piano bench as her fingers danced across the piano keys.

She seemed unaware of his presence. He leaned against the wall and listened to the melody she produced. The song finished and she sighed with a content smile. He moved away from the wall "That was beautiful." She jumped in her seat and immediately grew timid. He stopped walking "I didn't mean to scare you." She watched him carefully before speaking "It's alright. Thank you for the compliment." He carefully took a seat next to her on the piano bench.

She carefully placed her fingers on the piano keys and contemplated starting another song. Roderich watched her. He waited for her to begin playing the song. She withdrew her hands from the piano keys and looked up at him "I didn't quite catch your name." He sent her a soft, yet awkward smile "Roderich. And you?" "(Y/N)." Silence loomed over them and (Y/N) peered at him curiously "Why are you at the hospital?" He sighed at the memory "I'm here to visit a friend. I don't know how, but he broke his leg running away from training."

She stifled a laugh and he smiled at the sight "How about you?" She stared at the piano keys and Roderich wondered if he mentioned a sensitive topic "I'm a patient here." She didn't extend on the topic and Roderich chose not to pressure her. Instead, he placed his fingers onto the piano keys "Is it alright if I play?" She nodded and smiled "It's not mine. You're free to play whenever you'd like." He merely nodded in reply and began playing.

He glanced at her from the corner of his eye. He found a smile forming at the sight of her expression. The song had ended and she immediately praised his skills. Roderich had found himself conversing with her for a few hours on music theory, different musicians, and overall getting to know the basic aspects of their personalities. She glanced at the clock "I didn't realize this much time passed. Thank you for spending time with me Roderich." "It was my pleasure" he paused, "I should go visit my friend." She nodded in an understanding manner. He stood up from his seat "Hopefully I see you again."

She smiled up at him "I hope so too." He left the room after exchanging a proper goodbye with her. He wandered the hall and bumped into a muscular chest. Ludwig looked down at him and sighed "I can't believe you got lost for five hours Roderich." He opened his mouth to retort but remained silent. (Y/N) would be his little secret. He followed Ludwig and offered Feliciano his condolences.

Roderich continued to visit the hospital even after Feliciano had been discharged. He visited (Y/N) three days a week if possible. He helped her during her journey to recovery. She had hit bumps but had recovered a week after. The two remained seated in the music room. (Y/N) played a familiar melody and Roderich watched with silent admiration. He loved the way her fingers worked, seemingly effortlessly, to produce the beautiful melody. She turned to look at him when she finished the song with a fond smile.

He returned it with one of his own "What did the doctor say?" She scooted closer to him "She said I'm getting better. She said I should fully recover in five years." Roderich hummed in happiness "I'm proud of you. You've continued to fight." She looked up at him with the brightest smile he had ever seen "It's only because you've been here to support me, Roderich." He placed a soft kiss on her cheek.

He found himself in the hospital once again and sighed. Gilbert had managed to get himself hurt while driving to Matthew's house. Roderich looked around the hospital halls. He paused at the music room and stared at the dust-covered piano. The once lively room had been abandoned. The once beautiful melody that filled the room had moved along.

Author's Note:

So I decided to be a bit open about the ending of this one. There are two options:

1. She passed away after her battle

2. She won and she's out living in the world with Roderich. The reason the piano is covered in dust (sadly, they really should keep care of their instruments) is because she got cured a long time ago. They've been married for years (or dating, whichever you prefer, or even friends).

The ending is really all up to you.

The next one is Sweden and I'm so sorry about his accent.

Also, of course, it's Feliciano and Gilbert that end up in the hospital.

And sorry for the bit of PruCan in there. I happen to like it, but I won't put any of my ships in my fics, or I won't make it obvious anyways.
