Germany (Ludwig Beilschmidt) x Reader

Explosions shook the room and peopled rushed out in sudden fear and hysteria. Ludwig scanned the room for his guest, heart beating erratically in his chest. "Ludwig!" A familiar voice called out, tinged with fear. His blue eyes landed on the young nation trapped underneath a table, desperately pushing at the object to free herself. He pushed through the crowd and dropped to his knees near her "(Y/N), I'm going to get you out of here." She nodded with tears in her eyes, blinking them away as Ludwig pushed the table off of her. He ignored the screams of the people as he worked. The table shifted slightly and moved off of (Y/N) with one final push from Ludwig. He scooped her up in his arms and rushed toward the door.

She clutched his tuxedo tightly as tears flowed down her cheeks "I was so scared." His grip on her tightened as they successfully made it out of the building and into the crowd waiting outside for help "I wouldn't let anything happen to you." She sniffled and sent him a soft smile "How is it that you're always so reliable?" He glanced down at her with a perplexed expression "I'm hardly reliable." He placed her down gently on the floor and inspected her for injuries. She appeared okay, with a few bruises littering her legs. She held onto him to stop wobbling "I wonder why they bombed this place." Ludwig glanced at the number of nations littered among the humans "I wonder too." The two were soon joined by Gilbert and Feliciano who fussed over the young nation's bruises.

Chaos erupted within the meeting room and Ludwig sighed in annoyance. "Ludwig" (Y/N) whispered, and he looked over at her with tired blue eyes. She smiled innocently at him "I need help." "We're at a meeting." "The meeting's been sidetracked. Please?" He examined her for a few moments before succumbing. He could never truly deny her anything. "I didn't finish my presentation because Gilbert dragged me off to a bar" she explained, to be cut off my the German "You went to a bar? You're hardly old enough to drink." She rolled her eyes and continued "I need your help to finish it." He glanced at the chaotic meeting room once more before helping her with her presentation. He briefly wondered if they would even have time to get to it. The fighting had subdued just as they finished working on the presentation. She smiled at him "I knew you I could rely on you. You're always so reliable Ludwig." He ignored her in favour of starting the meeting once again.

-----------------

Ludwig stared at the nation before him in bewilderment. "How did you break your arm again?" He questioned. (Y/N) smiled at him with a small shrug of her good shoulder "Couches are dangerous." He chose not to reply. She pointed to a pile of paper on her desk "I was wondering if you could help me with some government work. It'll only be for a day." "I have my own work" he started, but stopped at the expectant look on her face "Which I suppose I can pause for today." He sighed and sat down in front of her "Tell me what to do." Her eyes brightened in glee and she placed a soft kiss on his cheek "Thank you. I'm glad I can rely on you." He waved off her affections and got to work. (Y/N) stared at him from her office chair and smiled. She had a crush on Ludwig, but she liked them as friends. She knew Ludwig preferred it that way too.

Breathing calmed the frazzled German nation down. He took deep breaths in and out, muttering to himself every few minutes. A knock on the door drew his attention away from his consistent routine. (Y/N) peeked her head in "Ludwig?" She had grown, Ludwig absentmindedly noted. She was no longer the young nation who relied on him. (Y/N) carefully made her way over to him "Would you like to talk?" He shook his head as tears formed in his eyes. "Ok" she breathed out gently. She placed a comforting hand on his arm and copied his crouched position. The only sound in the room was the German's shaky breaths as memories plagued his mind. (Y/N) wiped away his tears "Ludwig. Talk to me." He looked over at her with watery eyes "I." He stopped immediately, shutting his eyes to block her out, to block out everything. (Y/N) ran a comforting hand through his blonde hairs "I'm your friend. You can rely on me." He blinked at the familiar word. He looked up at her and slowly nodded in resignation.

Author's Notes:

I want to make it clear that she's not using him. She just goes to him for help the most because he's the person she trusts the most.

I wanted to try something new with Germany and I did one based on friendship, rather than romance (though there is a small scene that references romance).

Prompt Word: reliable. The idea is that he's there for her, and when he needs help, she's there to help him. They can rely on each other during their times of need.

About the thing bothering him at the end there's no real reason. You can believe whatever you want to believe about what's bothering him.

Fun Fact: I broke my wrist because of a couch and that is what sparked the inspiration for the couch comment.

I hope you enjoyed this.

Next one is America.

Edit: I didn't mention this before because I forgot about it. This line here means something:

Ludwig glanced at the number of nations littered among the humans "I wonder too."

Basically, I was going to run with this idea that nations were being targetted by hate groups because you know how sensitive some people can get, but the topic was too complex and possibly could lead to some trouble so I discarded it. Regardless, I still like this line because it shows that if people were to discover that nation personifications actually exist, they would be in danger, especially during times of crisis (Their own people or other people would attack them).
