Romania (Vladimir Popescu) x Reader

Rain fell down heavily from the sky and soaked the city's residents that didn't have umbrellas to shield them from the onslaught of nature. Vlad clutched his umbrella tightly as the wind fought aggressively to wrench it from his grasp. He adjusted his hood to further protect him and trudged on toward his place of work. Vlad entered the building and discarded the umbrella at the door and discarded his wet sweater on the office coatrack. He further entered the office and his heart fluttered at the sight of his crush. (Y/N) looked up from her paperwork and smiled at him "Hey Vlad! How are you?" He fixed his messy hair and smiled happily "I'm good. How are you?" Her happy smile never faltered as she replied "I'm well. It's nice to see you feeling better."

Vlad felt grateful for his hair at the moment as it covered his reddening ears and nodded "Thank you." (Y/N) glanced over at the calendar "You have a meeting with Mr. Kirkland today." The fluttering in his chest disappeared and his smile waned "Okay. Thank you." He turned on his heel and made his way over to his private office while greeting the other team members. He shut his door and crumpled into his chair. He knew that (Y/N) didn't like him more than friends, or rather, more than co-workers. He knew she treated him the same way she treated everyone else in the office, and that the two could barely be called anything more than acquaintances. However, he couldn't control his romantic emotions for (Y/N) and it only created more pain. He pushed away his thoughts and turned on his computer to begin his day of work.

Vlad worked hard to complete a significant amount of his assigned work before the meeting with Arthur Kirkland. Two hours later a knock at the door pulled him out of his work-oriented daze "Vlad?" He looked away from his computer screen and ignored his racing heart when his gaze fell on the object of his affection "Yes?" "Mr. Kirkland is here" she announced, only to pause when she looked over at him properly "Is something wrong, Vlad?" He saved his work and stood up with a small shake of his head "I'm alright. Thank you for your concern." He kept his tone professional and borderline distant in order to put some distance between the two. (Y/N) hesitated before excusing herself from the room. Vlad took a moment to compose himself before exiting the room and making his way over to the entrance.

When Arthur came into sight he felt happy at the sight of his old friend "Arthur!" The Englishman paused his conversation with (Y/N) and turned to look over at Vlad with a smile "Hello Vlad. It's a pleasure to see you again." "Drop the formal tone with me Arthur" Vlad commented, and Arthur nodded with a small laugh "Alright." Vlad glanced between Arthur and (Y/N) and internally frowned. There was a tension between the two of them, but he couldn't place the exact feeling it gave off. His stomach plummeted at the thought and an uncomfortable heat spread throughout him.

Arthur and (Y/N) watched him in slight worry. Neither of the two were used to seeing the strained expression on their usually happy co-worker. "Are you okay?" Arthur asked, placing a gentle hand on Vlad's shoulder. Vlad blinked and sent him an easy smile "I'm fine. I just got lost in thought about a meeting I have with Beilschmidt tomorrow." Arthur watched him carefully and relented with a small chuckle "I get that. Make sure you plan in advance and double-check your work." Vlad nodded and grabbed his umbrella from the bin "Let's get going. The restaurant I chose will close in an hour." Arthur nodded and turned to look at (Y/N) "It was nice to see you again. I'll call you tomorrow about the event." She nodded with a fond smile "It was nice to see you too Mr. Kirkland." "Call me Arthur" he casually replied, and she nodded once again with pink blotting her cheeks.

Vlad pushed away his discomfort and led Arthur to the restaurant to enjoy lunch and discuss business proposals. The lunch went by smoothly and the two managed to draw up decent proposals to present to Ludwig Beilschmidt the next day. Vlad returned to the office alone and took quick notice of the hint of disappointment present on (Y/N)'s face as she asked "How was lunch?" Pain swirled around in his chest, but he managed to conjure up a steady smile "It went wonderful." He paused on his way to his office and ignored the flash of pain in his chest at the sight of her "Oh, and please send a reminder of the meeting tomorrow to Mr. Beilschmidt's assistant."

Notes:

Requested by: HetaliaFanatic4ever

Vlad gives off a friendly/happy vibe so I feel like if he was heartbroken, he'd be casual about it and hide his feelings pretty well

He's hardworking and good at reading the room so I incorporated those as well

She's disappointed at the end when he returns because Arthur isn't with him

Prompt: Unrequited/Vlad loves the reader, but knows the reader doesn't love him back

I wasn't going to update this today, but I finished all four of my requests last night so I decided to put this up. England will be updated in a moment.

I hope you enjoyed it
