China (Wang Yao) x Reader Empress AU

The paper placed before her stood against everything the young Empress believed in and fought for. She pushed the paper across the table to her advisor "I refuse." He sighed and grabbed the paper "Your highness, there is nothing you can do. Your father created the contract, and you must follow through with it now that you are of age." She stared at the paper in anger "Is there no alternative? Is marriage necessary?" Her advisor stood up "There is no other option. Now pretty yourself up because he's coming soon." She processed the comment immediately "You will not speak to me like that. You're dismissed of your duties."

He nodded and she exited the room with anger coursing through her veins. She didn't understand how there was no alternative. She resumed her place on her throne as she absentmindedly listened to her subjects. The doors opened to reveal a parade of people entering the throne room in three lines. The male at the front of the group kneeled "It is a pleasure to meet your highness. I have come to deliver your fiancee." She frowned at the news but nodded to appear professional.

People moved out of the way and a young male emerged from the crowd. Her eyes scanned him immediately. His long brown hair was held back in a low ponytail and his brown eyes stared at her in a similar analytical manner. The officials dressed him in the finest red silk with gold designs appearing throughout the outfit. He bowed his head slightly "I am the Emperor of China. My name is Wang Yao." She remained seated in her throne to signify her disinterest in the contract "My name is (Y/N). I am the Empress, and will contain to remain the Empress of, (C/N)." Her attendant nudged her and whispered in her ear "Be nice."

She sent her attendant a quick glare before turning her attention back to the group "Rooms will be prepared for you. Please follow my attendants." She stood up and left the room without sparing her fiancee a second glance. The room filled with silence at the departure. Yao huffed and followed an attendant to his assigned room. (Y/N) dressed down to her comfort clothes and walked to her prized garden. Flowers of all colours bloomed around her and she smiled at the sight. It had been a while since she had a moment of rest.

Movement drew her attention and she watched Yao cautiously, worried he'd destroy her precious flowers. He seemed to not notice her and continued with his business. She sighed and watched him instead. He was truly handsome, and he exhibited a kind feeling, but the essence of the contract disturbed her. He turned and his brown eyes connected with hers. He sent her a kind smile and moved over to her. As he approached her, he noticed her stern expression appeared softer. He gulped as he got closer.

She was prettier than he originally thought. "May I sit here, aru?" He asked, motioning to the bench. She silently nodded as she returned her gaze to the flowers. He observed her quietly. She seemed bothered by his presence. He cleared his throat and she looked over at him curiously "Is there a problem with me, aru?" She seemed startled by the question and he allowed her to compose herself. "It is not you" she stated, to pause briefly. He frowned at her answer. She chuckled at his expression. He seemed even more confused.

She fiddled with her fingers shyly and Yao found the action slightly adorable. "I have a problem with the reasons. I don't agree with arranged marriages. You seem like a nice man" she explained. He ran her words throughout his mind. He personally didn't have a problem with arranged marriages, but if it made her uncomfortable he didn't want to pursue it. He disliked the idea of making her uncomfortable. He smiled brightly at her "Let's cancel it."

She blinked in surprise "Huh?" He nodded "We can cancel it. In exchange, I want to get to know you better." Heat rushed to her cheeks "Really? That's all?" He nodded and held out a hand "Do you accept, aru?" She shook his hand with a bright smile "I do." Pink dusted his cheeks at the sight of her smile which he shyly returned "Let's start over. I'm Wang Yao." She fixed her posture "I'm (Y/N). It is a pleasure to meet you Yao." The two shared a silent smile in the garden. Their journey had just begun.

Author's Note

I had so many ideas for this kind of AU, but I somehow chose the worst one. I don't think it's horrible (considering I did post it), but I think I could have done a lot better.

I really wanted to make her badass and she kind of is with her stubbornness, but I didn't know how to write it without it being cringey or her completely losing Yao's interest. I don't think Yao would like people that are rude and standoffish. The beginning is a bit off because of those reasons, but I decided to just make it a new beginning kind of thing.

Ending wise it's up to you. I like to think that they do end up married and they combine their countries and everyone is happy in the end. After all a few happy endings among a bunch of angst is nice to see.

Anyways my schedule for today is very hectic so I decided to give you guys a very early chapter on Friday because this is the only time I'm available to post it.

The next one is Switzerland (Who was also so hard to write)

Hope you enjoyed it.
