The Great Demon King had a long dream.

Like a spectre, he was flying above an ancient empire that had fallen into ruins. Outside a burning building that looked like a scholastic academy, he saw a scholar with red eyes. Slowly, he opened his mouth and spoke a heart-aching lament.

"The gods have abandoned us. The empire's blood fills its soil, while bodies dissolve like fat in the sun. Temples are destroyed, smoke lies in the city like a shroud, blood flows like the Yellow River floods. The high gates, the roads, were piled with the dead. In all the streets and pathways, bodies lay. On that day he called the storm; the kingdom became a ruin. Behold, he raged his grief on the land; and now the people began to mourn." [1]

The Great Demon King didn't know why, but he felt that his heart also began to ache. His eyebrows furrowed, and after a few days of being comatose, he finally woke up.

He looked around and saw Song Jia sitting beside him, fast asleep. She had reverted back to having a child's appearance. As soon as his body could move, he wanted to touch her to transfer some of his power. But he realized that his hand had already been tightly clutching her wrist like an immovable sculpture, and when he loosened his grip, deep and red fingerprint marks were already embedded on her skin. The bruises looked like a manacle chaining her.

The Great Demon King felt pain and a deep sense of guilt. He gently reached out to touch her cheek, and despite his wounded body, began to transfer his power to her. Cold sweat soaked his clothes as Song Jia's body began to grow and the bruises on her wrist faded.

Perhaps Song Jia sensed the new amount of magic flowing into her body, because her eyelashes trembled. Song Jia opened her eyes. When her gaze met those of the Great Demon King's, she froze like a deer caught in the headlights of an incoming car. Then her confusion ebbed away, and she quickly stood up.

"Wait here, I'll call Wen Yu to check your condition."

The Great Demon King caught her wrist again. This time, his grip wasn't as tight, but it was a grip that wasn't easy to shake away either.

"Jia, I'm alright."

"Alright? A sword was stabbed into your stomach! Do you know how much blood you lost?"

Facing Song Jia's anger, the Great Demon King couldn't help but smile.

"It's fine. I'm the Great Demon King, so I'll be alright. A wound like that wouldn't be able to kill me."

"You're powerful, but you're not an immortal." Song Jia finally saw that she returned to having a grown up body. "Jinhai, are you an idiot? You actually wasted your power on me instead of healing yourself?"

The Great Demon King used the hand that was holding her wrist to tug her closer to him.

"Jia, lie down next to me. I'll heal in a second if you do that."

"No, your brain's already broken beyond repair."

Despite her complaints, Song Jia still grudgingly lay down next to him on the bed. The Great Demon King released her wrist and wrapped an arm around her waist instead, pulling her close and bringing them face to face with each other.

The Great Demon King also changed his appearance and removed his horns and tail once more. Song Jia frowned and glanced at his bandaged stomach.
