esther showed up while elena and jeremy were talking. elena left with her and by the time jeremy told damon, stefan and may. they were gone.
they tried to walk away from the school but they were stopped by a barrier.
"what the bloody hell is this?" may asked trying to get through.
"salt. it's a binding agent for a spell." stefan said.
"we're trapped here." damon said.
damon went to go get bonnie so she could help them figure out how to break the barrier.
stefan and may were standing outside and klaus had walked outside leaving a voicemail for rebekah.
"what is this?" klaus asked once he saw the salt on the ground.
"that's exactly what i said." may said as klaus looked at them.
"your mother's back." stefan replied.
they went inside to see bonnie and she was trying to do a spell.
"she does this all the time, right?" jamie, her date asked.
"yes, no need to worry." may said.
"what's taking so long? all boundary spells have a loophole." klaus said.
matt walked into the room making may look at him.
"people are walking right out of the dance, past the barrier." matt said.
"well, if matt and i can leave, we can stop esther ourselves. all right, we just gotta find out where she is." jeremy said.
"suicide, jeremy." stefan said.
klaus quickly grabbed jamie's throats and started to choke him.
"suicide would be disappointing me. now, work your magic, witch, or i'll start killing people you fancy." klaus said to bonnie.
"let him go." bonnie said.
"not until you get us out of here." klaus said.
"ah, don't be stupid, klaus. bonnie doesn't give a damn about us. the only reason she's helping right now is to save caroline and tyler. you start killing the people she cares about, she'll tell us all to go to hell." stefan said making klaus let go of jamie.

stefan and may were in the gym with caroline and tyler while klaus and damon were with bonnie.
they finally found out where esther was so they sent matt and jeremy there.
"we know where they are." may said.
"they're at the old cemetery. jeremy and matt are headed there right now." stefan said.
"you let them go? they're gonna get themselves killed." caroline argued.
"we didn't have a choice, caroline. we're useless right now stuck in here." stefan said angrily.
"hey. she'll be fine. elena always manages to find her way through this stuff." caroline said.
"yeah, well, i'm just as worried about what esther's up to. she led klaus here for a reason. if she succeeds in whatever she's doing..." stefan began but tyler cut him off.
"klaus could get killed. and i did along with him." tyler said.
"no, tyler. that's not happening." may said.
"no ones gonna die. okay? bonnie's still looking for a way around the boundary spell. it's not too late." stefan said.

when the boundary spell was finally broken, klaus went to get esther's body.
they learned that esther was going to turn alaric into a vampire that would hunt vampires and would have a stake that wouldn't burn.
alaric decided that he wasn't going to compete the transition. he didn't want to be a vampire.
everyone had gone to the old cemetery to go see alaric. damon was going to stay with alaric during his last moments.
alaric and elena walked outside and they saw everyone was outside. jeremy, meredith, matt, bonnie, caroline, tyler, damon, may and stefan.

may went back out to lexi's grave and she let out a sigh before pulling out a bottle of tequila from her bag.
"hey, lexi. i know you're probably laughing at me right now. thinking wow she's crying over me." may said with a laugh as tears fell down her face.
"seeing everyone sad over alaric like that... it made me feel so many things. i know i should be sad over alaric dying, and i am. i just can't help but feel angry. you died and there was no one there to hold your hand through it. you didn't get to say goodbye to anyone." may said as she drank from her bottle.
she felt so raw sitting there in that moment. every emotion that came with death just came rushing in.
she heard a twig snap behind her and she saw stefan was behind her.
"i thought i'd find you here." stefan said before he sat beside her.
"how's elena?" may asked as she wiped her tears away.
"she's hurting. but she'll make it through this." stefan said as he took the bottle from her, drinking some tequila himself.
"you know, we never got the chance to speak after everything that went down before klaus came." may said.
"you mean me being angry with you about your past with elijah?" stefan asked as may nodded.
"i understand if you're still angry with me." may said as stefan let out a sigh.
"i'm not angry anymore, may. at first i think i was just shocked that you'd never told me. you're my best friend and lexi will haunt me if i continued being mad at you." stefan joked as both vampires laughed.
"i'm glad you're finally back to your old self, i've missed you." may said before pulling him into a hug.
the two of them stayed there for a little while longer and just reminisced on old times the three of them had together. lexi, stefan and may.

may got a call from stefan that alaric was still alive. bonnie got possessed by esther during her sleep and gave alaric her blood.
klaus ended up showing up to elena's house while stefan and damon were there.
klaus was leaving town and he wanted to take elena with him so he could create some more hybrids.
alaric ended up calling stefan to saw he had elena and caroline at the school. he said he wanted klaus or he would kill them both.
may immediately got into her car to meet up with the others.
