"I saw you and Kain sitting together at the game last night." I say as I plop down on Ayla's bed. I grab the remote and start flipping through TV channels.

Ayla's standing in front of the floor length mirror brushing her hair. She's in the process of getting ready for the day. The second I stop talking, Ayla stops brushing her hair and lowers it while she looks at me in the reflection of the mirror. She has a look on her face like she wants to say something but she keeps her mouth closed.

I sit up. My left leg is on the bed and my right leg is hanging off the bed. "I've been biting my tongue about this and... um... I-" I tighten my lips and shake my head. "I don't think you should be hanging out with Kain"

Ayla goes back to brushing her hair then goes into the bathroom, all without a word. Ayla got lucky and has the whole room to herself. She has a king size bed all to herself. I'm definitely jealous. I don't think Ayla would've wanted to stay in the same room with my Mom and Collin or with Hazyl and Ember. Even though she rode up here with them, I don't think Ayla is that comfortable with them yet.

"We don't hang out that often. Last night was the first time in a few days." Ayla says from the bathroom.

I look down at my left shoe and pick at the material. "Yeah but still. How can you stand to be around him after everything he's put you through?" I look up when Ayla walks in the room.

She rounds the bed and sits on the other side of the bed, facing me. Ayla sighs and quickly moisturizes her bottom lip. "You know, I think the same thing, how could I be around someone who ripped out my heart and lied to me but... when I look in his eyes, I see the guy who I love. Kain can say what he wants about me but when we were together, he let me in and I saw the real Kain. I guess, I'm waiting for him to show me that side of him again."

"Have you two even talked about the bet and everything yet?" I ask in a low voice.

Ayla bits the inside of her cheek and shakes her head. "No, not yet."

Before she can say anything further, her phone dings over on the nightstand behind her. She grabs the phone, reads the text, let's out an "Uuuuggghhhh!!!!" Sound then she angrily texts whoever texted her. When she's done, she tosses the phone to her left on the bed.

I furrow my brows. "Who was it?" I ask.

Ayla blows out a raspberry in annoyance. "Brent. Since I left he's been constantly asking where I am, who I'm with or what I'm doing. We're not even dating, we're just hanging out." Clearly she's frustrated at the situation.

Speaking of Brent, the small conversation I had yesterday with Kain pops up in my head. "Brent," I repeat his name. Ayla looks at me with a strange look. "How is he? Like, around you? Is he aggressive?" I say trying to sound casual.

Ayla dips her head down to try and meet my eyes. "Uh... Fine. Why?" I see the questions floating behind her eyes.

I shrug, look down at my lap then back up at Ayla. "Just be careful, okay?" I look at her with complete seriousness.
