Kageyama Tobio x Reader <A Selfish World>

Warning: Beware of angst. Some may not feel comfortable while reading it but I'm pretty sure it won't affect you very much.

___ was a beggar on the streets.

But nobody looked at her.

When she extended her hands, knowing full well that the people walking by had money on them, they ignored.

No one was humble. No one was kind. No one cared about the other. It was just a selfish world.

A week has gone by and ___'s stomach was starting to ache.

Still with no cash, she resulted to the last solution.

To steal.

She crept behind a chicken rice stall and when the vendor had his eyes else where, ___ swiftly and quickly nabbed a already cooked chicken thigh.

She was over the moon, she'll survive! But what about after? What will happen after she devours this price of meat?

She'll still be kneeling along the streets, begging.

Begging.

No one would've wanted to be like that, they wanted to have good lives, to earn a lot of money and have a big family crowd around them.

They want to be in control.

In control of their own life.

___ ran as fast as her feet could take her, she turned a corner and halted. She wanted to take a bite.

She wanted to take a bite out of the chicken so badly. But not now, not when there was a possibility that they had found out about their missing belonging.

Not when they would probably hunt her down to make her pay.

Not when she had done a bad deed just so she could save herself.

"Over there! You little bitch, tryin' to mess with us eh?" There was a group of 5 guys, sprinting towards ___.

They held there chopping knives and torches to help them see clearer in the dark which was slowly taking over the light.

___ gasped and dashed away.

Stay alive, stay alive!

Just a few 10 metres away was a raven-haired boy, having no other care in the world, just drinking his milk.

"Get back here!"

His head turned back to the source of the sound.

'Ah... Must be one of those thieves again...' He though as continued to such on the straw.

He thought not to follow them but his body reacted otherwise. 'Why am I moving? Do I actually wanna save that person?'

___ huffed out puffs of smoke as she ran. However, she was jerked back by the pull of her hair.

"Go die!"

Smack!

___ felt the release of the grip and she stumbled forward a bit due to the force. She turned back and saw a tall guy, standing between her and the vendors.

He protectively held an arm in front of the girl.

"Hey brat, don't get in the way!"

One of the guy came at the stranger and swung his knife at him. He dodged and scooted closer to ___.

"Y'know, I don't really know what happened and I don't think that I do wanna know but... Isn't it a little lame to be chasing a girl? I mean... You guys are like what? 20-30 years old? I suggest you leave this girl alone!"

"Huh? Wanna fight?"
"No, I don't."
"Well too bad. You get in our way, we'll make sure that you pay for it!"

They attacked him again, trying to attack the girl in the process as well but failed when the black-haired male shielded her with his own body.

His blood splattered on the walls around and also on ___'s face.

His right eye got sliced.

___'s eyes widened with fear and shock. So did the vendors' with their mouth dropped wide open.

"Hey uh... What's your name?" He asked.

"___, sir!" She replied.

"Stupid isn't it? You did something wrong yet I'm saving you. How stupid..." He muttered.

The vendors got angry and stabbed him in the stomach. Even more blood spilled out of his already wrecked body.

The male coughed out blood, and heaved a few pants.

"Hey, aren't you gonna run? Don't let my death be in vain, run!" He ordered. ___ ran away. As quickly as possible, she dashed pass everything in sight. Running anywhere is fine, she just had to run.

The chicken was now soggy and crumpled but it didn't matter.

"Run, and live, so that others may live too..." His gently closed his eyes. "Because this is a selfish world..." Were his last words.

His heartbeat had faulted and his body fell to the ground with a loud thud.

It's sad really, she didn't get to thank the guy. She didn't even get to know his name. He protected her for who knows what reason. She knew that she had a debt to repay him. She knew that she shouldn't have been saved.

Yet, he helped a total stranger.

A selfish world huh... It's not the world that's selfish, it's the people living in it that is.

But of course, not every human is selfish.
