Halloween was always a big deal for Allie, and after she and her husband, Steve, had their son, it became an even bigger deal. James loved dressing up every year in costumes and going trick or treating with you and with Steve. Allie loved making his costumes for him, each year something different and bigger than the year before.

On one particular Halloween, when James was 4, he came to Allie and asked for an extra special costume to surprise his daddy and his Uncle Bucky, who had recently finally came back into Steve's life and was starting to remember more and more about his past life.

"You have to invite Bucky over tomorrow night," Allie told Steve after putting James to bed the night of October 30th. It was impossible to get him down that night as he was so excited for his costume. "James is so excited to show him his costume."

"Why won't you tell me what it is?" Steve asked. Allie plopped herself onto the couch next to her husband.

"I am sworn to secrecy," she replied. "He made me pinky swear that I won't tell anyone, especially not you or Buck. Besides, I want to see your surprised face when he shows you two tomorrow."

"What, is it an Iron Man costume?"

She couldn't help but laugh. In all his 4 years of life, James had never really wanted to dress up like his Uncle Tony for Halloween. He truly was his father's son.

The next night, Bucky came over, upon Steve's request. The three Rogers were sitting around the dinner table when a knock came on the door. Knowing who it was right away, James jumped up from the table and tugged at his mother's sleeve, begging her to get up and run with him to his room to get ready. Allie chuckled and scooped up her son, racing to his room as Steve answered the door.

The two men sat in the living room, waiting for James and Allie to come back down.

"I still can't believe you have a son," Bucky said to Steve, looking at a picture of a baby James that was on the coffee table. His glance moved to a wedding picture of Allie and Steve. "And that you're married. What ever happened to little Steve who couldn't even talk to a girl?"

Steve rolled his eyes, but laughed anyways. "He turned into a superhero. Then got frozen for 70 years. Then met a beautiful girl and fell in love."

"Then he had a son and named him after his amnesic, assassin best friend." There was a joking tone in Bucky's voice, but Steve knew he was being serious. Bucky sighed and plastered the fake smile Steve hated seeing on his face. "You seem happy, though."

"She makes me really happy," Steve nodded. "Once you're ready, maybe she can set you up with one of her friends. We can do double dates and whatnot."

Bucky chuckled. "Trust me, I do not need your help to get dates."

Steve and Bucky laughed together.

Upstairs, Allie was doing the finishing touches on James' costume. James stood, looking at himself in the full length mirror in Allie and Steve's room. Allie was putting away the supplies and makeup she had used to make his costume. James turned around to look at his mother.

"Mommy," he said. "Do you think daddy and Uncle Bucky will like my costume?"

"I think so, sweetheart," Allie said, kneeling down to James' height. "Do you like it?" A big smile spread across James' face as he quickly nodded. Allie chuckled. "Good. That's all that matters. Now, are you ready to show them?"

"Let's go!" James said.

Allie smiled and kissed her son's forehead. It still felt like a dream to her, that she was married and had a beautiful little boy. It was one of those things that she always dreamed of but secretly feared it would never happen. She was lucky to have Steve in her life, and James.

Allie walked down the stairs first. Steve noticed his wife first and couldn't help but smile when he seen her. She returned the smile. Bucky playfully rolled his eyes and pretended to vomit. Allie playfully stuck her tongue out at him.

"Gentlemen," she started. "I present to you, the greatest hero of them all, James Rogers."

James raced down the stairs and struck a superhero pose as both Bucky and Steve stared in astonishment.

James' Halloween costume was the Winter Soldier.

Bucky stood from the couch first. Allie was suddenly worried about what they were both going to say. She knew the Winter Solider was a touchy topic with Bucky, especially since he started getting his memory back. But James had been hellbent on being his Uncle Bucky for Halloween, metal arm and all.

Allie used Halloween makeup to do James' arm to look just like Bucky's metal one. Every detail, done perfectly. And James had been growing his hair out to be as long as Bucky's. They almost looked exactly alike, the only difference being James' blonde hair.

Allie quickly moved to stand next to her husband, readying her explanation in case Steve didn't take it well either. He was still speechless.

Bucky knelt down to look at James. James had the widest, proudest smile on his face.

"Look, Uncle Bucky! I'm you!" he declared.

"Yeah, little buddy, I see," Bucky said. "You think I'm a hero, pal?"

"You're my hero," James said.

"So this was your surprise," Steve whispered to Allie.

"You're surprised, aren't you?" Allie said with a smirk. "He really wanted to be the Winter Soldier."

"I think I'm kind of hurt," Steve said, putting a hand to his chest in mock pain. "He didn't want to be his father for Halloween?!"

Allie smiled up at her husband before stealing a quick kiss from him. Steve smiled back at his wife.

"Mommy, daddy," James said, bringing the attention back to him. "Is it okay if Uncle Bucky takes me trick or treating?"

Bucky turned to look at the two. Steve could see the panic in his face; taking a kid, who was dressed exactly the way he used to when he worked for Hydra, around to people's houses. He was worried he'd get recognized by the wrong person or someone would hurt James for being with him.

"I don't think - " Bucky started

"Take him, Buck," Steve cut him off. "He wants you."

Bucky turned back to the smiling little boy and knew he couldn't say no to his little face; a face that, right now, mirrored his own a bit too much.

"Okay," he nodded. "Let's go."

Steve wrapped an arm around Allie's waist as the two watched Bucky walk James out the door, off to do some trick or treating.

"You know," Steve said. "I think Halloween is probably my favorite holiday."

Allie smiled. "It's mine, too."
