The large run-down, abandoned building stood in front of me tall and proud. It was built so long ago that no one even knew who made it, though people treated it as though it was worth absolutely nothing and should be forgotten about. That's what abandoned meant, right? I could hear the very few voices from inside. Many of those that I recognised such as a deep voice that carried to every room of every house. And also my mother's sweet, quiet song-like voice. She'd always sounded like she was in a musical. One of my best friends ever, Jade, was stood just outside the entrance of the main room pacing nervously, a bead of sweat forming on her forehead. Before I could get to her, I heard a loud bang from inside. Panicked, I rushed forward. "No." She said, her hand extended to my chest, holding me back.
"What's going on?" I asked, terrified of what I may be told. Jade looked down at the ground shamefully. "Jade." I warned.
"I... you just can't go in yet. Neither can I." She said quickly. I wasn't buying it. She knew something and I wanted to know what that was. She also seemed to read my mind as her eyes flicked to meet mine guiltily.
"Jade..." I dragged out the 'a'. Jade sighed and took a step towards me, which just so happened to be away from the door.
"It's a banishment." She told me. My heart stopped. No, they found out. My heart started pounding faster than it ever had in my entire life.
"Whose?" My voice crack gave me away but she said nothing and looked back to the ground. I noticed her gulp.
"Cathy..." I felt nothing but sadness inside my heart and inside my mind. Poor Cathy. It was all my fault. "She um..." Jade's face distorted into a disgusted expression. "She slept with a vampire." I opened my mouth to argue but knew better of it, if Cathy hadn't told them that I already knew anyway.
"How could she?" I acted, frowning as if it was new information to me. Jade shrugged her shoulders, shaking her head.
"I don't know. Those... things are completely disgusting. How could she even consider getting that close to one?" I covered my face 'angrily'. In reality, I was panicking and panicking hard. What if she wasn't safe? What if he came back and killed her? He is still a horrid creature only concerned with himself and his needs.
"Whatever she was thinking, I bet she's regretting it." I replied to her. I still felt nervous. Cathy has been my other best friend since I was ten, Jade since I was six.
"Pro-" Jade was cut off by the opening of the door she'd guided me away from just a minute or so ago. I could see all of the hunter members gathered in a large circle around Cathy, who looked ashamed and terrified. It made my heart ache for her.
"Miss Jade." The 'security guard' greeted politely. He was tall and scary to see. Almost as scary as some vampires were. His tattoo stood prominent on his neck to make sure the vampires knew exactly who he was. Lee turned to me and nodded in a similar way before saying "Miss Vanessa, the princess." I'd always hated that type of speaking and that title. Cathy's eyes flicked to mine, begging for help or for anything other than banishment. It took everything I had in me to walk into that room, Jade following shortly behind.
"Vanessa!" Mother announced excitedly. She'd never been one to act formal when she was supposed to. My father sat in his little personal throne next to her staring me down as if I was guilty.
"Mother." I politely nodded and did the same for my father though I didn't speak.
"Miss Cathy has been found out to have had particularly intimate moments with those of the opposite side."
