Everyone filed out quickly except for the most important families such as my own, Jade's, and Eric's - Jade's boyfriend. The Patricks soon came back inside to sit at the small table behind the thrones. Jade, Eric, Cable and I sat on one side of the table while our fathers sat on the other, our mothers standing behind them almost protectively. I was at one end, Jade next to me then Eric and Cable. "So, children." Cable's father grinned widely at us, that sickly look on his face that made me throw up in my mouth. "It's been quite the day, hasn't it?" I took Jade's hand beneath the table to calm her of her nerves. She hated Cathy for what she had done but could never say that she wanted her banished.

"Yes, it has." I agreed as I sat up straight in my seat, trying my hardest to keep looking at him rather than letting my eyes wonder. I'd been told off for that before.

"You seem tense, honey." Jade's father stared intensely at her from across the table. Jade was seconds away from crying and we both knew it.

"Sweetie?" Now Jade's mother had leaned forwards toward her to try and see what was wrong.

"Pathetic." Cable barked out as he rolled his eyes. I glared at him so fast, placing my hand on Jade's back.

"Cable!" Mr Patrick scolded his son who was smirking evilly.

"She's crying because her traitor of a best friend just got banished from our clan." Cable rolled his eyes once more, leaning forwards. Eric shot him a death glare as a warning to shut up. "I mean, seriously! Grow some."

"Eric, remove him from the room." Eric's mom barked at him. He quickly grabbed Cable's arm tightly, with so much force I could already imagine the bruising he'd have later. They were muttering something to each other on their way out that I couldn't quite catch.

"Darling, what is wrong?" Jade's mother slipped around the table to place her hands on her daughter's shoulders. I shrunk back in my seat away from them to give them space.

"Cathy..." Jade whispered, horrified still. Her father had an annoyed expression on his face as he leaned back in his seat to wait for his daughter to stop being childish, as he'd put it.

"You knew that it was going to happen." I glanced back at the exit door. Maybe...

"Why don't I take her out for some fresh air?" I suggested professionally, sitting up straight and putting on my business face. "She might just need some time to adjust and grow up a bit." Knowing what I was doing, Jade's mother went back to her husband and motioned for me to take her. Jade was looking at me angrily as if I had offended her somehow and I knew I had but did she really not realise that I was lying to them to get her and myself out of the room? I took my best friend's hand gently and pulled her towards the exit.

"Kids." I could practically hear the eye roll even with my back turned to them all. I just kept pulling Jade away until we were through the door and in the small ruined hallway that lead out to the street.

"Grow up a bit?" Jade asked me, steam coming out of her ears. I rolled my eyes at her and motioned towards freedom.

"I was getting on their good side. Now, come on." Even if she wasn't mad anymore, she took her hand back away from me and followed behind.
