~ Part 58 ~

My eyes landed on... my tail? I reached out for it only to be turning in circles for a second. There were a few chuckles in the room signalling to me that everyone had calmed down two notches. Other than my father, that is. He'd backed away to the front door. "You're literally chasing your tail." Colby said with a smile on his face. I glared at him and looked back to Jade and my mom.

"How do I change back?" I asked curiously, no longer wanting my tail, long nails, sharp teeth and strange ears.

"The same way you change back from being the hunter or the witch." I thought about my human form and felt my nails sliding back into my hands. My teeth retracted to human and my hearing went back to normal. My father took a few steps towards me.

"My daughter is a Shifter." He whispered to himself, getting closer and closer. He didn't seem to even notice Colby anymore. He was focusing on me. "Oh my god you're so precious." His fingers traced over my face as if I was the most delicate thing he's ever seen.

"But there's one problem." Cathy took a step towards everyone. I was just trying to stay on alert in case my dad made a dash for Colby, who we learned I'd do anything to protect. "Aren't Shifters solo creatures?" How has everyone heard of this Shifter legend except for me when I AM the Shifter?! My mom nodded, my heart dropping.

"So I can't be part of the clan?" My voice sounded weak and pleading, saddened by the news. As much as I didn't want the responsibility or for them to murder my boyfriend, it was like a family to me.

"Not necessarily." Dad shook his head. That's when his eyes landed on Colby. His automatic reaction was to speak those words that made him a hunter but Colby placed his hand on his shoulder.

"I'm never going to hurt her. Never have, never will." He said quickly before my father could react. The two men had a stare-off that honestly felt uncomfortable for me.

"I'll trust you." My fathers hand landed on Colby's shoulder as he spoke. "But if you ever do hurt her, I'll be right there with a wooden stake to drive it through your heart." My chest hurt at the thought of Colby dying even if I was dead first.

"I'd have one of my own."
