I was back in my apartment on my couch waiting for Jade. Colby had sped over here carrying me and said he'd wait on the roof until Jade arrived, just for extra protection. I knew Cathy was coming too but she was going back to her place instead, said she was tired. My foot strummed against the floors as I nervously tapped on the couch. There was something wrong with her and I didn't know what. It was worrying me beyond belief. Finally, there was a knock on my front door. I rushed up to it and flung it open, Jade standing there. She gave me a fake smile as she stepped inside. "Hey." She said casually, walking to my couch to sit down.

"Hi." I shut and locked the door behind her then walked to the couch as well, sitting beside her. "You can go now Colby." I whispered as quietly as I could so that she couldn't hear. The fluttery feeling in my tattoo faded away telling me he'd actually listened and gone.

"What's up?" She asked cheerfully, clearly completely faking it. I narrowed my eyes at her then sighed.

"I was going to ask you the same thing. What's been going on lately? You've been... tense all night." She stared into my eyes, unsure of what to say. I could tell she was holding something back and I knew for certain that she was going to lie because I could see it on her face.

"You just freaked me out with the whole old vampire thing." She shrugged her shoulders and looked down to the ground, doubling my certainty that she was lying. I reached out, grabbing her hand.

"Jade." I said sternly. "I'm the only one who can hear what you're saying." I hinted that Colby wasn't around and shuffled towards her. "So tell me." Jade's eyes stared into mine for an inordinate amount of time. I was worried that she wasn't going to tell me the truth but she finally spoke.

"He has you compelled." She said. I frowned at her in confusion. Who had me compelled? Colby? "I just know it. He's compelled you to be okay with all of his vampiric antics and now you've even let him feed from you." She ranted. She sounded worried but looked worse. Her forehead had little beads of sweat as she poured her thoughts out.

"You know vampires can't compel hunters, Jade." I said with a massive frown on my face. She shook her head so hard I thought it'd fall off.

"He's figured out a way, I don't know. But he has. I know it." I'd never seen her so frantic and freaked out but she was honestly starting to piss me off every word she spoke.

"He hasn't compelled me, Jade. You know that! I'm genuinely okay with him being a vampire because I think I love him already." She stared into my eyes still, seemingly searching for what I was thinking or feeling.

"No. The Vanessa I've known since I was a little kid would never even suggest someone else to come close to a vampire let alone you yourself letting one bite you." I couldn't believe what I was hearing anymore and neither could Cathy, who was apparently standing out side as she banged on the door. At some point, my lock broke and she stormed inside.

"You don't have a right to say that!" She exclaimed at Jade angrily. She marched over to the couch, leaning over it to intimidate my friend who I was really starting to reconsider. "If she is okay with him being a vampire, then she's okay with him being a vampire."

"No! Listen to you both! Mike's compelled you, too, Cathy! Don't you see? You're hunters and they're your natural enemies." I rolled my eyes and scoffed, standing up.

"What have they done to hurt us?" I challenged her, walking away so I didn't have to be so close to someone so close minded.

"I don't know because they probably compelled you to forget. But remember, they've bit you." I groaned out loud and stormed forwards at Jade, pushing her shoulders against the couch and staring directly into her eyes.

"I let him bite me so that he could protect me to his full capabilities, which is what he plans to do. Insult my mind one more time and I'll kick you out of your own damn apartment." Her eyes flashed with fear before rage overcame them. She pushed me back and stood up.

"See! Now you're even going against me. Both of you. This is their work." She stormed away from us but not before I ran in front of her, blocking her exit.

"Who else have you told of what you think is the truth. It's not, by the way." Jade bit her lip and backed up a little but Cathy was right there to stop her.
