The others were looking at Ness and I as we sat down on the beanbag. She sat next to me, her legs over mine as I was a foot stool. Edward looked between us for a moment. "'Ness'. Such a cute pet name." He teased, smirking at me. I glared as Ness just rolled her eyes.

"What did you do? And be honest this time." She said confidently, sitting up a little bit to stare at him more in the face. He sighed, leaning back against the wall.

"I simply harmed one of the other old vampires. It just so happened that she was old John's sister and old William's bride." Edward stated. He looked ashamed of himself and nothing like a normal vampire. He looked remorseful.

"Old William?" Sam questioned, standing up to casually look more powerful. His skinny arms and boyish face didn't do him any favours to make him look intimidating though.

"He's the one who's been fighting me for the last few weeks. Dangerous creature. He knows how to get into your head first." Edward's fingers touched his stomach over the shirt he'd at some point buttoned back up. He pulled his suit jacket over his front. "He's also the one who pushed a stake into me."

"And why are they all against you? Surely, that's old William's private matter?" I narrowed my eyes at him, watching his every move and facial expression.

"It should be, usually is, however old William is also very much a natural born leader. He's figured out how to get everyone on his side when he needs it." Elton and Aaron stared at him like he was absolutely mad. And really, he is. Attacking the one vampire who has a vampire partner who could get all of the other powerful vampires on his side in a second? Very dumb.

"You decided to attack the woman because...?" Elton prompted. Edward didn't seem to speak for what felt like forever. His eyes remained on the ground. Finally, he looked up at Vanessa.

"I didn't lie about everything. I defended the hunter." Ness' heart rate bumped up a few notches. She sank further into me for comfort. I knew exactly what she was thinking: that all of this is her fault.

"In what way?" Mike pushed on. He shifted in his seat. No one in that room felt comfortable. I wanted Edward out.

"I simply said that if he was stupid enough to attack a hunter, let alone a very powerful princess hunter, then he deserved to get staked." I wasn't sure what to say to that. Did I tell him to get out? Did I accept his request for protection in return for the same thing? Did I say I'd think about it?

"If everyone agrees with me, then I say we'll protect you and you do the same for us." Sam said looking very business-like. His head was high and proud.

"I agree." Kevin, Mike, Elton, and Aaron replied at the same time. I looked over them and to Corey, who was sat in complete silence like Jake.

"Corey?" I questioned. Corey was thinking and thinking hard. If we're trusting that what Edward is saying is true and then we accept the protection, then we're siding with the opposite side to old William and all of the others.

"I say yes." He finally said, though he sounded unsure. I looked to Jake.

"Yes." Alright then, there's literally only one other person who's opinion I care about. And her's more than anyone's. My eyes flicked to my girlfriend. She was clearly taking in the situation and deciding.

"Ness?" Her eyes met mine, that tight feeling in my chest sending me crazy. She stared at me for a second then looked down at her hands.

"I agree with Sam." She mumbled, knowing all of us would hear her. I gently moved her legs off of mine and stood up, walking towards Edward.

"Alright then." I started. The vampire pushed off of the wall to stand level with me. "My clan and I are in agreement. We'll protect you in order for the same thing in return... we have a deal." Our hands came together in a handshake. This better be the right choice.
