My heart jumped in a panic. You mean to tell me he's running from the other old vampires? That just makes me feel sorry for him. I tilted my head to the side to analyse his facial expression. "Edward, what have you done?" Colby's hands were suddenly on my hips, him standing behind me. I didn't want to react since Edward was cooperating right now.
"I may have said a few things that they didn't particularly like..." Mike and Elton visibly frowned, Corey taking a small step towards him. Edward looked ashamed of himself, like he'd failed his life mission or just disappointed the most important person in his life.
"Such as?" My head whipped around to Sam on the steps. For the first time ever, he looked genuinely scary. If I hadn't seen vampires my entire life, I'd be cowering away from him.
"I defended the hunter." Edward's eyes met mine and he let out a little smile. "I told them that they should not hunt you for doing your natural duty, as humans don't tend to hunt us for doing ours." His nostrils flared and his throat muscles moved with a gulp. "I guess they did not quite understand why I had defended you." That's when my eyes landed on the vampire blood on his black suit, the stains barely visible but there. Even in the darkness, I could see them. It was fresh.
"And you got into a fight?" Colby questioned him authoritatively behind me, his voice shockingly close to my ear. I thought he was really tall compared to me.
"Yes. With one of my dearest friends, too. Such a shame." Edward shook his head before looking back at Colby hopefully. "I understand you to be leader? I hope you'll consider my offer."
"I'll have to think about it." I wasn't able to get another word in as the vampire sped away immediately after a short, formal nod. Colby looked back at Sam strangely. They were having a silent conversation, which I hated them doing. There's no way he's leaving me out.
"I don't really know what to say." Elton said with a small chuckle as he sped closer to us, glancing around the group. No one looked particularly happy with anything that was happening, though I was happy about my tail and ears.
"Well, lets just get back to the garage and talk this through." Colby's arms were suddenly tightly around me and the air whipped past my head. Next thing I knew, we were stood in the garage again. I turned quickly into a human and sat down next to Colby on the beanbag rather than on his lap. This is serious business for serious times.
