~ Part 70 ~ Colby

"Circa!" Elton yelled loudly to the dog I basically hadn't seen in months. That thing stayed in Elton's room or outside and didn't even come close to any of us vampires. I guess she's just scared. The little mongrel came into the room hesitantly. It knew full well who was there. "She only trusts me." He boasted proudly. Hold up, isn't Vanessa technically a dog now? Or part dog? As if she'd read my mind, Ness slipped away from me and quietly growled at Circa. Before any of us knew it, the dog had made her way to the werewolf and laid her head on her knees, her eyes closing immediately.

"Oh, this is gonna be even more fun." Jake was smirking widely at Vanessa and Elton knowing how he felt about being challenged and proved wrong. I'm the exact same. Tara shook her head at her boyfriend.

"They aren't gonna fight, Jake. Colby would never allow it." How did it always come back to teasing me about everything? In annoyance, I snarled at her. The way Ness suddenly felt didn't escape me, though.

"Oh, please." She played it off, waving her hand. "Like he could ever tell me what to do." Our eyes met and somehow at the exact same time, we growled at each other. It sounded kind of flirty, like she was asking for me to snatch her up and speed upstairs.

"I feel like we should leave them alone." Sam 'whispered' but made sure the girls could still hear him mock me. Vanessa just ignored him and came back into my lap, her face in my neck.

"We also have to talk about what this means. Her being a Shifter means that she's no longer part of her clan and their priorities are not on protecting her. That means we have to instead." I immediately regretted my word choice as it sounded like it was a chore to do rather than a pleasure. Hopefully she knew what I meant.

"Have to?" Tara challenged me.

"You know what I mean." My eyes naturally narrowed at her. "If I'm not with her, I'll need Cathy to be." Mike met my gaze, a silent conversation going between us.

"That's no problem. And Mike will probably be with me too." I nodded and sighed a little, relaxing.

"Unless something happens, that's all we need to discuss." But of course, I had that bad foreboding feeling like something was going to happen. I didn't know why or how but I just knew something was coming. (Maybe winter is coming 🤷‍♀️😜). Just then, my senses picked up a vampire I didn't entirely recognise, there was something about him or her that I was familiar with. Vanessa's head turned to the garage door knowingly. Damn, she can still detect vampires. Her ears quickly flicked up into her wolf form, her eyes going a light purple. I quickly placed her on the beanbag and sped out to the drive. I saw that same old vampire who'd appeared at Vanessa's own apartment. "Edward."
