"Not gonna happen." Kevin growled. He was in front of everyone now, too, just a few feet in front of me to block me from their view.
"Why do you protect her? She's your natural enemy." Another of the six questioned us. Elton scoffed and rolled his eyes.
"She's part of our clan now. And we protect our own." He replied casually. It sounded like he'd been planning it for years.
"She's also a hunter, idiots. And you've brought two other hunters into your clan." Evelyn snarled right back at us. She was staring at my two best friends standing protectively in front of the girls. "Not to mention the humans. Who smell amazing, by the way." Sam and Jake took another step forward while I stepped back. I didn't know where I was gonna go or what was about to happen. Is this the battle right here? Or is this like a pre-battle taster? Either way, it needs to be over soon.
"You don't understand because you're so close-minded. Those hunters haven't once tried to kill us." Mike stated matter of factly. He glanced at me as I was getting more nervous. God I hate being human sometimes.
"She killed John. That's all we care about. So hand her over to avoid yourselves a fight right here right now." William threatened. I kept stepping backward. I wasn't even technically part of the group anymore. I scanned my eyes over the six... five old vampires. There was definitely six, rig- my tattoo and senses flared as I heard a vampire coming up behind me. I growled, almost roared, as I turned around and saw it coming at me. I dodged its lunge towards me and pulled out a stake, stabbing it straight into the fucker's heart.
"You bitch!" Evelyn screamed, terrified and angry. Her face completely turned vampire as did the other's. I smirked, the ash of the vampire getting blown away with the wind.
"He shouldn't have attacked me alone." I stated. Evelyn's eyes were burning into my soul and Colby's hands were suddenly on me again. I leaned against him for protection, watching everyone.
"That's two old ones under her belt." Cathy said with a huge cocky smirk. "I wonder how many more she can kill."
"None. She'll be dead by the sunrise." Another vampire stepped forwards. He looked to William for permission to attack but he shook his head.
"You may outnumber us but we're stronger than you all and we're older." William started his little speech. Meanwhile, I looked up at Colby and gave him a sad smile. He tightened his grip on me but I waved my hand. I froze everyone except the old ones in place with my Strega form. The old vampires stopped moving anyways, staring at me incredulously.
"Hunters have always puzzled me." Evelyn said snarkily.
"If I come to you, you leave them all alone, right?" William and Evelyn raised an eyebrow and looked at each other. They both nodded. "Then let's make a deal. I come to you and you don't harm even a hair on any one of their bodies."
"Deal." William said. I walked away from Colby reluctantly. This will hurt me more than anything. I could see my friends' eyes following me, the only thing they could move. Cathy was clearly fighting hard against the spell. She even managed to move her fingers. Regardless, I walked faster. Eventually, I was stood in front of the old vampire couple.
