~ Part 39 ~ Colby

We sat down on the beanbag together, her on my lap and leaning against my chest, even her head leaning against me. I would catch the occasional look at us from the corner of my eye but my eyes were completely focussed on the girl in my arms. The others didn't matter nearly as much as she did anymore. Everything surrounded her. So much so that I hadn't even realised my own hunger. "I think it's sweet." Katrina whispered to Sam amongst the few other conversations going on. They looked similar to us only Katrina's heart was beating a little faster.

"I wouldn't use that word." Sam replied with a chuckle. No, I wouldn't use it ever. Vanessa may have, I think. I wasn't sure. I was just so... pleased to be around her. And she's mine now.

"I don't care. It is. A vampire falls in love with a vampire hunter and vice versa." Woah, love? Um, no. At least not yet. It's way too early for that and I've never loved anyone before. Not only that, she could never love me. Her clan would get in her way and nothing could ever come of this. I just knew that right now, I needed her.

"Look how cute they are." Corey whispered, joining in on the conversation. "I'd say she's seconds away from sleeping and he hasn't stopped staring at her." It was true. I hadn't stopped staring at her because I wanted to take in every detail of her face. And the way she smiled at Jake, Jade and Cathy when they said something to her. Occasionally Mike or Tara would add something too. She'd gone kind of quiet the last few minutes though.

"What do you think he's going to do if she falls asleep?" Devyn asked in a whisper. They did know I could hear them, right? Or were they just being stupid for a moment? Or maybe they were just tying to get on my nerves. Just then, Vanessa's body relaxed more into mine and her breathing got steadier, her heart beating calmly. I let myself smile a little and shifted her to be lying down more on top of me.

"And there she goes." Sam whispered to the other three. I broke my gaze for just a second to glare at him, telling him to shut up.

"We've been compromised. Abort, abort!" Kat whisper-yelled. The four of them laughed, shaking their heads at each other. In her sleep, Vanessa blushed a tiny bit. Her blood rushed to her skin and made me suddenly go crazy. I had so many urges to just bite her anywhere. It took me a few moments to gain control of myself once more. It'd been so easy up until then. I repositioned and tightened my arms around her then sped away from group carrying her. I grabbed a blood bag on the way up the stairs to my room, all at vampire speed of course. Vanessa cuddled into me when I stopped moving, stirring but trying to stay asleep. I smiled and placed her gently on my bed despite my fangs already out ready to bite her. I forced myself to back away and brought the blood to my mouth, drinking it.

"Are you coming back or...?" Jake asked teasingly. I rolled my eyes, throwing the empty bag into the trash and switching off my light.

"Guess not." Kevin laughed as I got into bed next to Vanessa. It was getting late for us anyways, nearly ten am. Vanessa cuddled into me, her head burrowing into my neck and my arms wrapping around her waist to pull her close to me.

"Come in here and you're dead." I warned my friends knowing full well that one of them would try to see me lying in bed with her. As strange as it sounds, I just knew that they would.

"We'll think about it." Sam replied. I was too busy focusing on the soft breathing of the girl next to me to care about what he said. I'd made my promise of what would happen. So it would be their fault.
