Nights like these had always left you completely on edge. As soon as the weather girl would mention over-night storms you would start getting anxious, and the darker the evening got and the stormier the sky became, the more terrified you would become. You couldn't concentrate, so focused on listening for the first clash of thunder and looking for the first flash of lightening.

In all honesty, you knew that it was a silly thing to be scared of. You could fight off monsters and aliens and bad guys without even a hint of fear, but a little bit of thunder and lightening was enough to leave you cowering under your covers.

The first clash of the night caught you off guard, as it always did, sending you flinching on the bed with a little yelp of fright.

You had tried everything you could think of in the past to attempt to calm yourself; there had been nights of useless earplugs and noise cancelling headphones. Hell, you'd even tried taking the anxiety medication that Bruce had given you, but none of it seemed to make even the slightest bit of difference. You would still be shaking with fear until it was over.

When the second clash came, there was a knock at your door, drawing your attention away from your bedroom window. Perhaps you were imagining it. No one in their right mind would be up wandering the facility this late.

"Y/N? Are you awake?" Peter. Sweet, caring Peter had come to check on you. You made your way out from under the duvet, moving across the room at a slow pace as you attempted to calm your breathing into something that resembled normality.

You paused as you reached the door. You looked a mess, you were sure of it. Red cheek and a snotty nose from your tearful evening. Bed hair and grubby Pj bottoms that probably should have gone in the bin a year or so ago, but that you had grown far too emotionally attached to for a piece of clothing. For a second, you considered ignoring him and getting back into bed. You could pretend that you'd managed to fall asleep. Not that he would ever buy it.

"Can I come in? It's cold out here."

His voice brought a smile to your lips, and you quickly unlocked the door, letting him inside. "What are you doing up?"

The smile he gave you was one of the sweetest things you had ever seen, all lopsided and adorable, like a puppy. "Not tired," he uttered, although you didn't completely believe him. He too had messy hair, and old Pjs that were just a little too short in the leg for him, and as he moved past you he stifled a yawn.

"You're a terrible liar," you murmured, pressing the door shut as quietly as you could manage and  climbing back under your duvet.

"Thunder woke me up," he told you softly. "And then I remembered what you said the other day about not liking storms and I wanted to make sure you were okay."

You nodded slightly, watching him carefully. "Well, as you can see, I'm totally fine-" You words were cut off when there was another mighty crash of thunder, your whole body going rigid as you jumped at the sound.

"You're shaking," he stated, his smile fading as he took a step closer to you. "Please let me stay."

For a moment, you considered telling him no. He would have to leave if you told him to, but suddenly, you didn't want him gone any more. You nodded slightly, moving over in the bed to make space for him.

"Thank you," he uttered, moving slowly towards his spot and climbing in beside you. He looked slightly uncomfortable at first, sitting straight upright in bed, but then you leant into him, pulling his arm around your shoulders and feeling him relax at your touch.

"How weird is it-" you murmured, releasing a small bubble of laughter "-that I'm absolutely terrified of thunder, but I'm friends with the literal God of Thunder?"

Peter snorted, his arm tightening around you to pull you closer into his side. "Pretty weird," he chuckled, feeling you laughing with him.

Thunder rumbled again, the room lighting up with the flash of lightening outside. Your hands were gripping onto Peter's t-shirt as tightly as they could manage, pulling yourself even closer to him. His own hands shifted on your arm, rubbing soothingly over your skin.

"It'll be over soon," he murmured, leaning in and pressing a kiss to the top of your head. You hadn't been expecting such a tender gesture, the movement catching you off guard slightly. "I won't go anywhere until it's done."
