It had become some sort of routine. Chestnut would do his usual round every day and, after giving every cookie the newspaper of the day, he would go to their house and have some hot chocolate and whatever pastries they had made that day. It had been like that for a few months, and it was something Chestnut looked forward every day. Specially as winter arrived again. It was a warm and safe space, and Chestnut made to enjoy it all he could.

He knocked on their door a very cold afternoon of winter, snowing falling from the sky. He hugged himself for a moment, a shiver going down his body as the cold air started blowing again.

"Chestnut dear! Come in, you must be cold" the cookie said as they opened the door, inviting the small cookie inside. Chestnut smiled as he went inside, the warm on the house comforting his cold body.

"Why don't you go and sit down near the fireplace? I'll bring you some good hot chocolate right now" they said with a soft smile. He smiled at the cookie as he nodded, and wasted no time in sitting down near the fire.
A fluffy blanket was put on his shoulder after a few minutes, and he looked up at the cookie with a small smile.

"Thanks" he said softly, making them smile.

"Is nothing dear. Here, your cup or hot chocolate" they said softly, offering the cup to the small cookie. Chestnut took it gratefully as they sat down at his side.

"So, how was your day today?" They asked, chuckling softly as his eyes sparkled.

"You won't believe it (Y/N)! Today I was with Pudding Cookie when…". Chestnut told them all about his day with a big smile, and the cookie heard them with attention, enjoying how happy he looked. Neither of them realized how time passed, and when Chestnut looked at the window for a moment, he realized how late it was.

"Oh...sorry, I talked too much. I should get going, is late and someone needs to deliver all the newspaper tomorrow" Chestnut said with a smile, even if depth down he wanted to stay more. But, at the same time, he didn't want to take advantage of their hospitality.

They looked at the window, a worried look forming on their face at the moment.
"Chestnut...are you sure? Is snowing heavily right now, a storm might be on its way" they said with a worried voice.

"I'll be fine!" Chestnut said, trying to dismiss the topic. He didn't want them to worry more than necessary. He was a strong boy after all, and had dealt with weather like that in the past! So he could do it again.

"...you know you can stay here, right? I don't mind, and I can wake you up early so you can go deliver the newspapers" they said softly, putting a hand on his hat gently.

"I know but...I don't want to be a bother" he said softly, a sad look on his face as his gaze moved to the ground.

"You are not a bother Chestnut. I'd be very honored to have the best journalist in this town staying here. I can gush about it with my friends!" They said, making the small cookie giggle.

"Well...if you say so" he said with a shy smile, making them smile.

"Of course. Now how about you help me with the dinner, you must be hungry after all those adventures!"

A few hours passed, and they found themselves with a sleepy Chestnut on their arms. They left the small cookie on their spared bed, putting the covers over him gently. A smile formed on their face as he hugged the covers, mumbling nonsense for a moment.

"Rest well Chestnut" they said softly, kissing his forehead before they left the room. They missed the small smile that formed on his face.
