School was incredibly boring.

Even with a demon to keep him company in his mind, Hunter was extremely bored. It didn't help that he was stuck with Max who wasn't very talkative, usually. Not that Hunter even wanted to talk with him, talking wasn't his strong suit.

"His neck,"  Zekaj said, causing Hunter to perk up suddenly.

"What?"

"His neck, look," Zekaj said again.

Hunter looked over at the wolf who was staring at his phone in his lap and looked at the bit of his neck he could see. It was slightly hidden but Hunter could just make it out.

A mating mark, right in the crook of his neck.

Hunter couldn't help but smile at the fact that Max and AJ had mated. Sure he wasn't super friendly with AJ but he couldn't help but feel happy for the two of them. Max obviously was protective over his alpha as most betas are, but the mating bond definitely made him worse, or better depending on how you looked at it.

Max looked up from his phone and Hunter quickly looked away before their eyes made contact.

The wolf rolled his eyes and went back to his phone, knowing the mage had seen the mark along his neck.

"If you dare mention my mark to anyone I won't hesitate to tell your parents about the one along your neck," Max threatened, making sure his voice wasn't too loud.

Hunter looked over at Max, eyes wide with fear.

"And it's not hard to see that large mating mark along your neck when you aren't doing your best to hide it. Pull your jacket up and be careful around your parents," Max said. "I'm sure you already are already hiding it as well as you can, but if I can notice it, so can they."

"Ok," Hunter mumbled, pulling up his shirt.

"Have you thought about wearing turtlenecks?" Max snided.

Hunter frowned at the wolf whose sly smile didn't fade.

"So you know who my mate is, who's yours?" Max asked. "It's only fair,"

Hunter just stared at him unsure what to do.

"He's not leaving this school alive," Zekaj said.

"You are not killing Max," Hunter said.

"Bet,"

"That's for me to know, and for you to not," Hunter said as the bell rang.

Before Max could even reply the mage was quickly out of the classroom, heading for his locker.

"Nosey bitch,"  Zekaj said in his head.

Hunter dropped everything into his backpack and quickly headed for his car. It was just down the hall and in the parking lot, a quick walk was all that was left.

Fate seemed to have something else in mind as he heard large footsteps behind him and Max's muscular body was at his side. Hunter looked over at the dark-skinned boy, who suddenly put an arm around his shoulder.

Hunter could feel deep down Zekaj was not happy about Max's arm around him, he even thought he could hear deep growling in his head.

"Well I've had some time to think about it," Max said. "And the smell coming off the mark sure doesn't smell like anyone in our pack. But it has to be a wolf right? What else could leave a mark like that?"

Hunter didn't say anything and just pushed open the doors of the school, pulling the wolf's arm off of him.

"Maybe a neighboring pack? But they would need their alpha's permission who would've told our alpha who would've said something to your parents,"
