I dont read that language...

So, as y'all know, I'm an English native speaker. I know a bit of ASL, small pinch of Japanese, and currently teaching myself German.

Well, I thought wattpad had us pick what language we use their site and app in? I'm guessing not now cause of what just happened.

Maybe it's cause of yesterday? Idk.

Here's backstory.

I have a lot of friends around the world, and we always speak in English with one another as our community communicates that way mainly (sometimes German or Tagalog is used when doing inside jokes for some since a lot of people are in those areas).

Well, one friend in the Philippines and I were talking yesterday and I found out he puts his stories on Wattpad. He writes them in English since that is the dominant language here in Wattpad. So I gave him a follow cause I wanna support him and read his stories!

All is fine, right?

Yup!

Then the weird thing happens this morning when I first got on Wattpad.
I got a pop up discussing Wattpad Premium, but it wasn't in English. It was in Tagalog.

It doesn't bug me too much, but mainly has me confused.

Like, why? I can recognize it's Tagalog due to seeing it so much in the community I'm in on other social media, but I can't read ANY of it. I always ask friends for help to understand something in Tagalog. And I know it was for Wattpad premium cause I saw the word premium peppered throughout it.

Like is this because I interacted with someone on Wattpad who has a different language setting for their interface?

It really confuses me as I've interacted with people who are Latinx, yet I've never gotten pop ups in Spanish. Ive interacted with people from Hungary, yet no ads in Hungarian.

So I'm confused on what algorithm system there is for Wattpad to so an ad for their stuff in a different language? If anyone has a theory or actually knows why, please say so in the comments.
