Car Crash Cliche

Okay, I'm sorry if I'm really rude in this one, but this subject is more personal and touchy for me.

In most of the teen fiction, romance, and boy band fan fictions on here, there seems to be a common thing that happens after a big fight/breakup: car/motorcycle crashes.

Now, as a heads up, I'll let you know that many people in my senior class alone have been in car crashes (including me) in our final year of high school, so I know the variants of a crash.

Why must people say the guy/girl gets in a crash right after a breakup? Not only is it cliché, but the outcome is so inaccurate and infuriating.

They just got in a crash that totaled their car and also nearly killed them? Yikes. That's really bad!

They get out of the hospital only a day after the crash.

Okay, that's where I snap.

They were in a nearly fatal crash, correct? Let me tell you something about a fatal crash.

A girl in my class ended up dead after a head on collision with another car. She could've survived if the force wasn't as much as it was on her head.

I nearly died of blood loss after my head slammed through my driver's window and hit the car that hit me. Not only did the SUV rub against the side of my car, it also totaled it by smashing in the engine (first spot it hit).

An old friend of mine crashed into a tree on her way to school. She ended up with a serious concussion and couldn't walk for a few days. Her car was also totaled.

Want to know how long my friend and I were in the hospital for?

She was in for three days. I was in for an entire day and then sent to another hospital for an overnight watch and day watch.

You do not get out the next morning after a crash as serious as those! And you especially don't go to school the next day!

I was out of school for two weeks from pain alone, and I didn't even have broken bones. I was out due to serious inflammation and muscle bruising. And when I went back, I couldn't move my arm still thanks to the injuries. I even had bandages on my head still, mostly for insecurity issues with my stitches. My friend was out for three weeks because of how bad her concussion was, plus, she was having issues walking when she got back. She got dizzy often and had to sit down a lot.

Car crashes that serious can not be brushed off like they were nothing.

I even have PTSD from mine. It's not fun, especially when I'm in a car.

Now, even with smaller crashes, they still aren't that lenient on letting you out of the hospital right away.

One of my really close friends was at a stop sign once and someone ran right into the back for her truck. The one who caused the accident wasn't in good shape at all, but thankfully my friend only got tousled in her seat a little.

But guess what?

She was still loaded into an ambulance. She was given a neck brace to wear due to her complaining of her neck hurting really bad. She had a bad headache too, and all that happened to her was a shove forward from her seat and a slam back into it.

She ended up having a concussion and whiplash. She was released a few hours later since it wasn't that bad, but the doctor that oversaw her didn't allow her to participate in our marching band festival the next night.

So, what are you seeing from these real stories?

You don't get off that easily from a crash.

I'm tired of people writing about them incorrectly. It infuriates me so much.

Study things before you write them!
