After a few minutes of thinking if over, Fury agreed to let the fate of the project be in Y/N's hands. Y/N was diligent in watching over the cube. She also began keeping a journal about her first run in with the Tesseract to whatever she had seen. She even journaled the few other dreams, as she was calling them, that she had seen while she was asleep. Y/N realized that she would see things when the Tesseract was acting up the most.

Months passed, and she continued to watch over the cube of death. Y/N only left the facility to visit Steve, which was only about once a month. They always were calling each other though. She felt bad that she hadn't been able to spend a lot of time with Steve, but he kept saying that she was doing her duty to the country.

Y/N tried her best to push Tony away from her thoughts. But it was just so hard. His supposably clean energy building was almost complete, and was all over the news. It was also all some scientists and agents around the facility Y/N was at could talk about. If Phil or Clint were around, they would try to change the subject but, most of the time, Y/N just ended up watching the Tesseract from a different area of the room. Sometimes, she couldn't help but fall asleep crying about Tony at night. No matter how hard she wished for it not to happen, Tony Stark was stuck in her heart. And she knew it was for good.

If Bucky still had a lot of her heart, then Tony would end up being there always too.

She was getting ready for bed when she felt the shift. Something was happening with the Tesseract. Y/N bolted out of her room and into where the Tesseract was being held. Dr. Selvig was in there with the other scientists trying to figure out what was happening.

"What did you do?" Y/N immediately asked.

"We didn't do anything," Dr. Selvig responded. "It just started acting up."

Y/N looked up to where she knew Clint was perched up above. "Barton!" She called. "Did you see anything?"

"No!" He shouted back. "It's doing all of this on its own."

Clint studied Y/N's features for a long second. She was obviously nervous about something. She was rapidly tapping her foot and had brought her thumb up to her mouth to nimble on her nail. He looked around to see that Coulson had arrived and was calling in the big guns. Clint jumped from platform to platform down, until he reached Y/N. Who had zoned out so much, she didn't even realize that Clint was standing in front of her. Her head was buzzing and she knew something was going to happen.

"Y/N?" Clint carefully called. "Y/N?" He gently put his hands on her arms. "Hey." Y/N finally made eye contact with Clint. And it scared him to see the look of worry in her eyes. "What's going on?"

"Something is going to happen," Y/N whispered, her eyes finding the glowing cube behind Clint. "I can feel it. And it's... it's going to change everything."

"You can't be sure-"

"I've never been more sure of anything in my life, Clint." Y/N gripped her friend's shoulders. "You have to trust me... I don't know how this happened, but the Tesseract and I are connected. And I know that something's going to come through the other side."

Clint immediately took her over to Coulson, to share her worries. They agreed, though it took a bit for Y/N, to wait one more hour before doing anything rash. Four hours later, the facility was being evacuated and Maria Hill and Nick Fury were just arriving. Y/N refused to leave the Tesseract's side. The energy levels were climbing, and the buzzing in her head was getting louder.

"Talk to me doctor," Y/N heard Fury order as he entered the room.

"Director," Dr. Erick Selvig greeted.
