April 8th - Prompt: Begin again

-----------

Peter clung to his little brother, shaking, trembling, sobbing. His eyes were wide, tears streaming down his cheeks, but he didn't care, all he cared about was that his brother was alive. She had tried to take him from him, but had failed, and Peter had never been more grateful in his whole life.

He pulled away for just a moment, staring into his brother's eyes before choking on a laugh. "When are you gonna learn to do as you're told?" He choked out, voice shaking as he gripped Edmunds arms as tightly as he dared.

Edmund didn't answer, and only gave Peter a mischievous smirk, before all four siblings fell into one big hug.

Edmund was the first to break the hug, and whilst Peter was reluctant to let go, he slowly turned to find Aslan, alive and breathing on a nearby statue.

He hardly paid any attention as Lucy grinned, grabbed her cordial and dashed off towards the nearest wounded solider, and as Susan - after hugging Edmund once more - got up to go after her.

He did though turn to Edmund, who slowly turned to him, staring up at him with an unreadable expression on his face. "Peter?" He murmured.

Peter, after realising he was still crying, wiped at his cheeks and sniffed, taking a deep, shaky breath. "Are - Are you okay?" He asked shakily.

Edmund sighed, swallowing hard. "Sort of." He mumbled.

Peter's heart shattered. "I'm so sorry Ed." He whispered.

Edmund frowned. "Why?" He asked weakly, his voice quiet.

Peter hesitated, before shaking his head. "I should've been more careful." He mumbled. "I should've protected you better."

"Don't be silly Peter." Edmund told him. "I made my own decision, there was nothing you could've done to stop me from doing what I did."

Peter bit his lip. "I know." He breathed. "I just wish I'd been a better brother, not just today, but ever since Dad left. I just-"

"Peter stop." Edmund said with a shake of his head. "Look, it's all in the past okay? So let's just forget about it, why don't you and I just begin again? Brothers?"

Peter couldn't help but smile, and firmly nodded his head. "Brothers." He breathed, and even now he was still gripping his brother's arms.

Edmund smiled weakly, before leaning forward to rest his forehead against Peter's shoulder.

Peter sighed sadly. "You wanna head back?" He whispered, placing a kiss to the top of Edmunds head.

Edmund nodded slowly. "Please." He murmured, Peter hardly hearing him because he spoke so quietly.

"You okay?" He couldn't help but ask, sounding beyond worried as he stared down at the top of his brother's head, tears once again filling his eyes when he heard Edmund take a deep, slightly forced breath.

But he nodded, taking hold of Peter's hand and smiling even though his brother couldn't see it. "I'll be fine." He said gently, his voice still as quiet as a mouse. "Don't you worry about me."

But of course Peter did worry.. for about a week after.
