April 24th - Prompt: Rise

----------

"Why did he do it?"

Peter sighed. "Ed look." He murmured. "I am so sorry you had to find out this way, but you need to understand that he wanted to do it."

"But why?!" Edmund cried, tears in his eyes. "I betrayed him!"

Susan placed a hand on Edmund's shoulder. "Ed he doesn't care." She said gently. "He loves you so, so much. He loves you so much he died for you, doesn't that say something?"

"It does yes." Edmund murmured. "But I just can't understand why, after everything I did, why he would just give his life for me."

"He rose from the dead." Lucy stepped in. "We watched him rise."

"But he still died."

"Ed listen okay." Peter murmured. "It may take time for you to understand, I'm sure we'd all feel the same way if it were us, but you'll get there eventually, it'll get easier."

"I feel so guilty though." Edmund whispered.

"That's totally normal." Peter said softly. "But we're all here to help you okay?"

Edmund stared at him, managing to give him a weak, small smile. "Thanks." He whispered.

"Peter's right." Susan said with a soft smile. "But for now, let's have something to eat, I'm sure we're all hungry."

Peter agreed to this, but he held Edmund back for a moment. "We'll talk about this properly tonight." He told him quietly. "But Susan's right, we do need to eat now, and we all need to calm down and clear our heads before discussing this any further."

Edmund nodded in agreement. "Thank you." He mumbled.

Peter smiled. "Don't mention it."
