"Dad," Natalia hissed, attempting to wiggle herself out of his large muscular arms but unable to since he was tightening his grip and suffocating her. Her eyes glanced towards the other parents that merely waved their hands and let their children rush to the entrance. There were numerous teachers greeting the parents as well, and Natalia felt her cheeks flare red when a few of them glanced in their direction. "Dad, you have to let me go, I have to go inside."
"You have to be careful, okay?" Lucius sobbed, burying his face into her shoulder as he continued to cry as if the world was ending any second. "You have to stay vigilant and strong; remember all the attacks I've taught you."
"Lucius," Dante grumbled, narrowing his eyes since he was despising the attention that they were attracting since Lucius wails were echoing across the entire area. "She's going to school, not war."
"Sweetie," Sarah bent down, meeting her gaze and furrowing her brows. When Natalia's attention was on her, she firmly stated, "You better not use any of dad's trainings, do you understand me?"
"No, no, don't listen to her," Lucius pulled apart but kept his palms on her shoulders.
Natalia couldn't stop her face from stretching into a grimace as she watched her father's lips quivering abnormally, his eyes overwhelmed with so much tears that it streaked all over his face. Not to mention, there was snot that kept sniffling back up, and all she wanted to do was escape his tough grasp.
"If someone tries to fight you, you have to remember to," he pulled his hand apart to lift his fist on either sides of his face, "protect your head and look for an opening...sniffle...the best points to throw a punch are the first," he motioned towards her jaw with his knuckles, "the side of your jaw, and then—"
Jake's hands wrapped around Lucius' fists as he grinned towards Natalia and hurriedly said, "This is your chance to run, so go on."
Immediately, even though Lucius cried after her, begging for one more hug, she sprinted away, giddily waving a hand as she screamed, "Bye everyone! Love you guys!"
All of them—Nate, Dante, Sarah, Cesar, Lucius, Jake, Bronsted, and Jules—waved back in her direction, watching as she raced to the entrance, her humongous school bag with verses from Shakespeares plays plastered on its print—gifted by Cesar—bouncing up and down on her back. She was not only thrilled to finally be able to make friends, but boast about her beautiful nails—done by Cesar the night before—and her stylish outfit—dressed also by Cesar who brought her shopping the day before.
They all wanted to be present to send Natalia off on her first official day in elementary school.
The moment she disappeared behind the double doors, Lucius buried his face into his palms as he whimpered, "I wanted one more hug."
"Lu, she's gone for seven hours," Jake chuckled as he planted his palm on Lucius's trembling shoulder.
Sarah nodded her head, observing him with sympathy. "We'll pick her up together."
