Chapter 14

Remus' POV

As soon as James walks away, Mack comes flying over to me.

"Did I do okay?" She asks nervously. "He called off try-outs the second I caught it."

I laugh, how could she not realize that she tried out perfectly and that's why he called them off. She doesn't even notice how awesome she is. "You did great Mack," I say with a grin. "You were perfect, that's why he stopped try outs. He knew you were going to be the perfect addition."

"What do you mean addition?"

"Sirius, Marlene, James, and I were on the team last year. Everyone else graduated so we knew we would be on the team so he only needed a seeker and two chasers because Marlene switched to beater instead of chaser like last year."

"Oh, but he made you try out again?"

"Yup, in case there was anyone better than us."

"Which there wasn't."

"Correct."

She nods and we fly down to the ground and walk towards the locker rooms. Mostly everyone is gone except for the Marauders, Lily, and Marlene.

James walks out with a huge grin on his face.  "I have the team list."

"Great, who's made it this year?" I ask.

"Well definitely not Mackenzie, I mean it's not like she caught the snitch in a record time," Sirius says teasing her. 

But she doesn't get it.  Her eyes grow wide and moves backwards away from us.  I grab her arm. I lean down to her ear and whisper, "he's teasing you, you did great!"

"Alright so keeper is Remus; great job blocking every shot too, beaters are Sirius and Marlene, I'm chaser as well as Emmaline Vance and Edgar Bones," he says with a grin.  "Oh and Mackenzie, you are our seeker. Fabulous job catching the snitch by the way!"

"Thanks," she says sheepishly.

"C'mon guys, let's go back to the castle and go to the kitchens for celebratory ice cream!" Sirius shouts.

"You know where the kitchens are!?" Lily shouts.

"Nope, we most certainly do not," James says quickly.

"Ugh whatever. Let's go," Lily says annoyed at the boys.

As we head towards the castle Severus Snape walks towards us.

"Good afternoon Snivellus, are you enjoying your afternoon stroll?" Sirius provokes him.

Before we all can blink Snape whips out his wand and casts a curse too quick for any of us to hear.  He aims at Sirius but it doesn't hit him.

"Marlene!" Lily shouts, I turn to see her on the ground convulsing from a spell. I walk over and  enchant her to fly.  "Mack!" I shout.

"Yes Remus," she says softly, her blue eyes wide.

"That greasy boy is an enemy of ours and hates us all, especially James. Be careful and stay away from them. I don't want to have to bring you to the hospital wing too," I say quickly as I move towards the castle.

"Don't worry! I'll be careful," she says with a smile as she pulls her wand out of her pocket.  "Go take her, I'll keep the boys from being stupid."

She's awesome.

James POV

Remus turns and runs up to the castle with Marlene. I have no idea what that spell was she got hit with.  Hopefully it's not too bad.

"C'mon Snivellus! What have we done to you this time?" Sirius shouts, drawing the slimy Slytherin's attention away from the girls.

"Everything!" He shouts.

Soon enough those two start casting spells and I should join in but I'm paying half of my attention to the girls.

"Lily," I hear Mack ask, "Who is Snivellus?"

"That's one of my best friends.  His real name is Severus Snape and he is in Slytherin. The Marauders hate him and he hates them.  The Marauders bully him all the time. I hate how they treat him.  He's so nice and caring to me," Lily says.

"I didn't think Slytherins were nice and caring to Gryffindors," Mack says suspiciously.

"Well he is to me, we are from opposite sides of the same town," Lily says quickly.
Mack looks over at Snape and then at Lily. "He must really like you then. Do you have feelings for him?" Mack asks.  I turn and look at them, completely nervous for her answer.

"What!?" She says shocked.  "No, he is just a friend. I don't like him like that."

I sigh, then turn back to Snivellus and see he is being taken care of very well by Sirius.

I'm about to join in when I hear someone yell out, "James Potter, don't you dare cast a spell at him."

I whirl around and see that Mackenzie is glaring at me along with Lily. "Mackenzie, you have no idea what this is about."

"Then stop this now and tell me. If I understand and find this behavior acceptable then the Marauders can find him together," she says, reminding us all that she is a Marauder too.

I sigh, feeling very defeated, "Very well. Let's go before Lily explodes."

I walk away and all of the Marauders fall in step next to me. "James," Mackenzie whispers. "You all need to tell me more about Snape, and not about how greasy he is. There is a real reason why you all don't like him. And I know you overheard Lily and I talking."

I look back and see Lily helping Snivellus up. "Those filthy, privileged blood-traitors," he mutters and pushes Lily away from him. He starts to pull out his wand but I'm already casting a spell.

"Petrificus Totalus!" I cry.

"James!" Lily shouts "how dare you."

I march right up to Snivellus. "You can say that about me as much as you want but don't you ever say that about my friends ever again." I look up at Lily and see her bright green eyes hardened by anger. "You'll understand one day Lily," I whisper then walk away.

As I rejoin the group I see Mackenzie standing slightly to the side. I think she is really tired from last night.  "C'mon Mack, lets go find Remus and then I'll explain everything. We will meet up with the rest of you lot later and you can add on to what I tell her."
