Mack POV

The first thing I notice when I wake up the next morning is complete silence. Its still dark in the room but I can tell I'm in the Marauders' room because the bed smells like Remus. "What the hell?" I mutter to myself. "It's never quiet in the Marauders' room. Sirius and Peter both snore, and James talks in his sleep. I quietly get out of Remus' bed and realize that it is so quiet because I was absolutely alone!

I look at James bed and see a note on there and a bunch of parchment. I walk over and grab the note and glare at it while I read.

Dear Mack,

We know you will probably be angry that we left you alone and didn't wake you up for breakfast but you were dead asleep and tired from last night. Remus casted a spell so then the room would stay dark while you slept before we left. We don't know when you wake up or where we will be when you wake up so we left you the Marauders map so you can find us. We want to talk about the book so when you are up please come find us. Remus isn't allowing us to come back to check to see if you are awake.

The Marauders

I grumble and let out a string of curses. "Those idiots!" I exclaim as I pick up the map and mutter the password angrily. I open the map and scrounge the map for their names. After ten minutes of searching I conclude that they are absolutely nowhere on the map. I roll my eyes and decide to go shower, maybe they will show up when I'm done.

I cross over to my room and head into the shower. I turn on the water to hot and then strip down. Once the water gets to the right temperature I jump in. While I'm washing my hair, I have a revelation. The Marauders' weren't on the map which leaves me with two options. They are either off campus or they are somewhere the map doesn't know about. "Oh my goodness," I whisper out loud. "They are in the Room of Requirement."

I finish my shower in record time and get dressed even faster. I sprint over to the boys' room and grab the map as well as one of Sirius' sweatshirts that was sitting right near the map. I run out the door and then being my clumsy self, I fall down the stairs trying to put on the sweatshirt. "Oof," I groan after I land on the common room floor. I look up and see there is no one around. "Oh thank god," I mutter, "No one noticed." I grab all of the items I dropped and put them into the sweatshirt pocket. It's cold enough that you could wear a sweatshirt but it is so much easier to hold onto items as an animagus if they are in your clothes pocket. I stand up, brush myself off, then transform into my silver kitten animagus.

I walk over to the door and slip outside. I move through the halls quickly, no one is taking the time today to pay attention to a small kitten walking through the halls. It's even more surprising when I walk by my mum and she doesn't even notice that I walked by.

Finally, I reach the Room of Requirement and once I make sure no one is coming, I pace back and forth, still in my kitten form, until the door opens up for me. I walk through the doors and but none of the Marauders notice someone came in until the doors shut. "Who's there?" James shouts out.

I start laughing as I transform which makes them smile because I go from meowing to laughing which is really cool.

"Alright, so let's get down to business," I exclaim as I plop into the seat next to Remus. He smiles and grabs me a hot chocolate from the table.

"How'd you know I would want that right now?" I look at him curiously.

"Intuition," he says with a wink.

"Whenever you two decide to stop flirting and when Mack's hair turns back to normal can we start talking?" James says with that teasing look.

Immediately I look down and control my emotions. Why does Remus effect my emotions so much? He shouldn't, he's not my soulmate.

"I read some of the book," Remus says softly once he sees the color fading to brown. "Are there really that many steps?"

"Yes, and yes you will have to have a mandrake leaf in your mouth for a month," I say seriously. "For me, I did it over the summer so it was easy doing that but I don't know for you guys. You will have to make sure you can talk with the leaf in your mouth without swallowing it."

"We can figure that out," Sirius replies. "Do you know where we can get the supplies for the potion we have to make?"

I sigh. "I think my mum got them from the store in Diagon Alley. Since we can't get there in time, I think we would have to steal from the school's supplies.

James starts rubbing his hands together mischievously. "I think we can figure out a way to get that done," he says looking at Sirius.

"Definitely," Sirius replies with a grin.

"I would suggest we start to do all of this right away. That way we can get it mostly finished before winter break," I say softly. "Then over winter break you can learn to transform and practice it without worrying about a teacher finding out."

"Oooh, good plan," Peter exclaims. "Since us four are going to James', we will be able to practice together."
They all chatter away and it takes me a while but then I remember the most important part of all of this.

"You all will need to learn your patronus if you haven't already. It's essential for transforming," I exclaim suddenly.

They all turn and look at me. "That's the easy part!" James exclaims. "My parents are aurors. They taught us that spell in the summer before 4th year because they are afraid something bad might be happening soon. They are getting a gut feeling about danger."

"That's great," I say softly. "Can I see them?" They all give each other weird looks after I say this.

"Maybe later," Remus says quickly. "They aren't perfect and need more work to become stronger. Once they are much better you can see them."

"Yeah, I agree with Remus," James says. "Let's go to the kitchen to get food since Mack hasn't eaten any breakfast or lunch." We all nod and follow him out the door.
