Mack's POV

I sprint out of the classroom and run out of the castle as fast as I can. I head straight for the forest. The second I get to the edge of the forest I focus and try to shift into my wolf. I feel a shift starting but end up screaming on the ground in excruciating pain.

I hear large footsteps come pounding towards me and look up to see Hagrid coming over.

"Mackenzie are you all right?" he asks shocked.

"I can't shift," I cry out. "It's painful and I don't know why."

He kneels down next to me and pulls my hair out in front of me. It's a pearly white, almost translucent. "You just went through something shocking, yes?"

"Remus Lupin is my soulmate," I whisper. Hagrid was my babysitter when I was little. Mum told him everything in case I had a nightmare during a nap at his hut.

"No," he gasps. "He can't be. That would mean he is a werewolf."

"I know," I whisper with tears running down my face. "I want to go run in the forest and get away from here."

He shakes his head and picks me up. "Not happening. You are coming to my hut and will relax. I'm going to go get your mother and Professor Dumbledore, they will know why you can't shift."

"NO!" I shout. "You can't get them."

"Why not?" he asks confused.

We enter Hagrid's hut and he set me down on the big comfy chair he has. "What's going on Mackenzie?"

"Uncle Aberforth told me on Saturday that Dumbledore is my dad," I say twiddling my fingers.

Hagrid's mouth drops open, "Well this explains everything."

I look up confused, "What do you mean Hagrid?"

"You have gone through two sets of shock only 3 days apart. Doesn't your animagus go along with your patronus? You need a happy memory for that and since your body is in shock it isn't able to shift until your emotions are settled."

"I've been able to shift before when I was shocked. It happened in October when I felt sparks from Remus kissing my forehead. I could shift then."

"You were scared then, adrenaline was high so you could shift," Hagrid explains. He might not have finished Hogwarts but over the summer he would read with me in the library. He is just as knowledgeable as all of the professors here.

A loud series of knocks pound on Hagrid's door. "Stay here," he says sharply. "That's an order." He tromps over to the door and opens it.

"Hello Professor," he says politely. "How can I help you?"

"Hagrid please," I hear my mum say, "Have you seen Mackenzie? Professor Flitwick just told me what happened in his class and I need to find her."
"MUM!" I call out weakly and tuck myself more into the blankets.

Mum's eyes widen and she rushes past Hagrid to get to my side and pulls me into a hug. I immediately start bawling into her shoulder like I always did when I was little.

"Shush, it's okay darling, everything is alright," she hums into my ear. She brushes her fingers through my hair and holds me close. I feel myself slowly starting to relax but the tears don't stop.

"Why did everything have to happen this week?" I ask leaning out of the hug.

"I'm so sorry you had to find out from Aberforth. We didn't want to tell you until you were much older," she says softly looking over her shoulder at Professor Dumbledore who was standing and talking to Hagrid.
