Sirius' POV

Ever since the dance, Mack and Remus have been acting weird. I noticed during breakfast that they were sitting super stiff and upright next to each other compared to being relaxed and laughing with each other.  They barely even spoke to each other.  I keep track of all the differences so I can tell James later in the safety of our room.

"Do you know what happened to Mack and Remus? They are acting differently," I ask James once we are alone packing.

"I have no idea," James says softly. "Do you think something happened at the dance?"

"Most likely," I reply. "Do you think he kissed her?" We both freeze. Dammit, this is probably our fault again. "I'm going to take my Christmas present down to Mack and ask them if something's up," I say quickly before digging up her present from under my bed.

"HEY MACK!" I yell running into the common room. "I got something for you!" I stop by the couch and see Mack sitting in front of the fire and Remus sitting in an armchair. "MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!"

"Merry Christmas Sirius," she says softly taking the present out of my hand. "All of your presents are up in my room for you to take home and open on Christmas Day." I drop onto the ground next to her smiling while she opens it.

"Aww, this is so cute! Thanks Sirius!" she exclaims giving me a hug. I got her a silver kitten stuffed animal to match her Animagus form. "I'm going to name it Misty," she giggles.

I look back at Remus and see him looking at her fondly but not saying anything to her. "I think that's a great name! What do you think Remus?" The second I say that Mack and Remus both go pale and Remus clears his throat a bit.

"I thinnnkk that's a... a... a great name Sirius," Remus stutters out.

"Is there something wrong between you two?" I question. "You both are acting so weird. Did something happen at the dance?" I look at them both raising my eyebrow at them.

Remus clears his throat again. "Uh, Sirius, may I speak with you?"

"Sure, plus I need your help packing," I state before heading upstairs.

Once we are both inside the dorm Remus slams the door shut. "Woah, what did you do to make Remus slam a door?" James accuses looking up from his trunk.

Remus groans. "Can you never bring up Mack and I acting weird ever again?"

"Sure, if you say what happened," James sasses.

"I kissed her, she didn't run, now it's weird even though she said it wouldn't be weird," Remus explains sitting on his bed.

"Did you talk about it at all?" I ask.

"Nope, she was confused and wanted to think about it. We aren't going to talk about it until she brings it up," I say softly.

James and I freeze for a minute, giving each other looks to see if we should say anything.

"Did you and Mack ever talk after that freak out in September?" James asks Remus.

"No, we both apologized and that was it. Why?" he asks confused.

I sigh, "She probably is considering that too in what she needs to talk to you about."

Remus looks at me, "Do you know why she freaked out? Does she tell you more than she tells me?"

"Only that one time Remus and I don't even know if she remembers talking to us. She was so hysterical and panicked," James responds.

"What did she say? Was it about me?" Remus asks semi-excited yet very nervous.

"We can't tell you.  It's not our place to say," I tell him.

Remuslook down at the ground. "I understand mates," he whispers.  "I just wish she would tell me what is goingon in her head."

James and I both nod and go back to our packing. Remus keeps us company and soon Peter comes back and joins us too.

At 2 o'clock we all leave the dorm with our trunks to start heading towards the train. We stop in the Common Room and see Mack and Lily talking to Marlene.

"Are you coming down to the platform?" Marlene asks.

Lily looks at Mack, "No, we figured it would be smarter to stay her and not get in anyone's way."

Marlene shakes her head, "How come you two are so smart? Merry Christmas!"

"Merry Christmas," the girls echo before hugging goodbye.

Mack turns to go sit in a chair and jumps when she sees us all standing and watching them. "You aren't coming to wish me off!" I exclaim running over to tackle Mack in a hug.

She laughs, "I figured you could survive without me Sirius. OH! I have your gifts." She turns to the table behind her and passes out presents to all of us. We each give her a hug when she gives us ours and tell her thanks. After we receive our gift we walk over to the Portrait hole.

She gives Remus his last with a small smile. "I hope you like the gift Remus."

"Of course I will, it's from you," he teases. He reaches down and pulls her into a big hug.

As they pull away, Remus turns to walk away but Mack grabs his hand. He looks back and she pulls his face down and kisses him on the cheek. The rest of us all groan and cover our eyes until we hear Mack giggle.

"What was that for?" he asks.

She shrugs a bit before looking up, "There was mistletoe."

Remus smiles so big, his eyes look so happy. Maybe she's talking a step forward for them. "Does this mean we can talk about it now?" he asks hopefully.

She shakes her head, "Not now. Perhaps after break. Merry Christmas Remus!"

Remus nods, definitely less happy. "Merry Christmas Mack, have a happy and safe break." He turns away and joins us at the door.

"Merry Christmas," I shout to Mack and Lily opening the door. We all file out the door and walk down the Grand Staircase. "Freedom!" I shout once we get outside.

"So," James says, rubbing his hands together, "What are we going to do first?"
