Remus' POV

"How are you feeling?" Sirius says softly when we arrive at Marlene's bedside. I sit on the edge of her bed as Sirius stands at the end of the bed.

"I'm feeling much better," She says with a smile. She's sitting cross-legged leaning against the headboard. "I had minor internal bruising, mostly due to the fall. They never figured out what spell I was hit with though so..." She just shrugs and trails off.

"So they were just guessing how to heal you!" Sirius shouts. "That's bloody ridiculous. With all the damn resources this school has–"

I reach out and place my hand on his arm and he calms down. "I'm glad you are doing better. When are you being released?"

Marlene stands up and pulls her school jumper over her head. "Since I'm all dressed, basically as soon as Madame Pomfrey gets back. She said I could go to Hogsmeade as long as I'm not alone and I check in with her twice a day."

"That's great," I say with a smile standing back up. "Let me go fetch her, I think I saw her in the hall talking with Mackenzie and Lily about volunteering in the hospital wing."

"I didn't know they were thinking of becoming healers," Marlene says softly. "I thought Lily wanted to be a professor or something."

I shrug, "I haven't been paying close enough attention so I don't know." I turn and look at Sirius and try to talk to him telepathically – "Behave".

He rolls his eyes and I walk away. I hear them start talking about Quidditch and what teams they think are going to the finals this year before I finally get out of ear shot. I wind down the corridors until I'm outside the Great Hall where I thought I saw Mackenzie, Lily, and Madame Pomfrey talking. Instead, I run into Professor Dumbledore and Frank Longbottom.

"Hey Lupin," Frank shouts, wrapping his arm around my shoulder, "You excited for Hogsmeade today, at the rate you've been chowing down chocolate you're probably ready for some more."

"Uh yes, I guess," I say quietly shrugging his arm off my shoulder. "You seem to be in a good mood today."

"Alice agreed to go on a date with me!" He exclaims with a grin. "Can you believe it?"

"That's great man. Have fun."

"Thanks!" He turns and sees Alice walking down the stairs, "Ah there she is. I'll catch you later."

He runs off and I turn to face Dumbledore who is standing there with her arms crossed. "I feel like you were interrupted in thought," he says quietly.

"Oh yes, I was looking for Madame Pomfrey. Marlene was told she could be released as soon as she was ready for the day."

"Ah I see. You just missed her. She wrapped up her conversation with some students and went back to the Hospital Wing. I believe Miss McKinnon will be released very soon."

I nod. "Thank you Professor."

He looks at me intensely for another moment then nods. "Well, if that's it then I'll be off. I have some matters to attend to."

"Of course Professor, have a nice day," I nod back.

He ascends the stairs and I walk towards the entrance. James and Peter agreed to meet us in the courtyard so we could all go to Hogsmeade together. I walk outside and shiver at the sudden chill in the air. I'm glad I grabbed my thicker coat, it's rarely this cold in the first week of October. It was raining all yesterday then the temperature dropped making the ground super slick. I shuffle slowly being careful not to slip as I approach the fountain.
