Sirius' POV

"Welcome to another year at Hogwarts," Professor Dumbledore says after the last 1st year sits down.

I lean over to Mackenzie, "I think that is the smallest 1st year class I've ever seen."

She nods. "Mum said a lot of families opted for homeschool and pulled their other children out of school," she mutters back.

I scan the room. "A good amount of seventh years didn't come back. I wonder why," I smirk.

She rolls her eyes and leans forward onto her palm.

"And now I would like to introduce our Head Boy and Head Girl; James Potter and Lily Evans."

I lean back and start whooping as James and Lily stand up from the table.

Instantly the room fills with talking. As James sits down I smack him on the back, "Nice one Jamesie, everyone's talking about us now." I grin.

"How are the brilliant Marauders going to prank the school when Potter is head boy?" Remus groans. "It's like they've already forgotten I've been prefect for the past two years."

"Yeah, but you're you Rem," Mackenzie grins. "You're the bookworm, not the mastermind of the pranks."

He rolls his eyes.

"Yet you somehow get away with much more than the rest of us could," James murmurs. "We need to exploit that this year."

Lily shakes her head and looks across the bench at Peter who's sitting next to me. "Peter, you sure are quiet tonight," she remarks looking at our dear friend who's eating some trifle pudding.

He smiles at the attention, "You've got to try this, it's so much better than usual."

"Really?" I ask incredulous. I reach over to the platter and scoop some on my spoon. My eyes widen. "That's actually good."

They all look at me shocked. I can't stand trifle pudding, I'd rather eat dog food.

Immediately they all are piling the pudding onto their plates before sighing.

"This is heavenly," Lily groans. She reaches over and taps Peter on the top of his hand. "You are definitely the best Marauder Peter."

He blushes and eats another spoonful.

"To Peter," James grins, holding up his goblet.

"To Peter!"

Hours later, we're all laying in our dorm room.

"Guys."

I look up to see Mackenzie laying upside down, dangling her head off James' bed.

"It's still my birthday, I want to do something fun."

The others rattle off ideas as I stand up and start riffling through my trunk. I reach in the bottom and grab a closed paper bag. I reach in and pull out a colorful tuber.

"How about Muggle firecrackers?" I announce drawing everyone's attention. "I bought them in muggle London at the beginning of the summer. I was planning on launching them with Marlene on her birthday but..."

Mackenzie stands up, "That's perfect Sirius," she says ignoring my trailing off. She looks down at her watch, "And curfew isn't for another half hour."

Remus nods, immediately understanding her train of thought. "You set up in the astronomy tower while we get the houses to the clock courtyard."

She grins, "Exactly."
