James POV

The time slips by and soon enough it's Christmas Eve.  After my mum and dad go to bed, Remus, Peter, Sirius and myself all sit in the living room and cast charms on the entryways to sure they can't hear us. "Alright men, this is the day we've been waiting for.  We've had a mandrake leaf in our mouths for a whole month," I exclaim to the guys.

"And we learned how to talk with one too!" Peter shouts from his spot on the floor across from me.

Remus reaches into his bag and pulls out four vials of potion. "So here's the deal, since we are inside only one of us can go at a time and when someone transforms no yelling or cheering." Remus pauses his rules for a moment as we all groan at him. "Don't you groan at me, you don't want the Potters to wake up do you? And also please don't spill the potion or spit it out. We can't use magic to clean it up if we spill it."

"Those sound like understandable rules Remus," Sirius says nodding along, "Now tell me, do you have extra potions in case one were to knock a vial over while transforming because technically we wouldn't notice we knocked it over?"

Remus sighs, "Thanks for pointing out that technicality Sirius. And yes I do have extra vials but not a whole lot."

"Also is everyone wearing shorts that they don't mind getting ripped?" I ask removing my shirt. "Mack never told us if our clothing transforms with us or if it rips off."

"Alright!" I exclaim. "Who wants to go first?"

Remus sighs, "I suppose I could go first.  Since Mack explained how to do it to me the most."

He reaches over and grabs a vial from the stack. He moves and stands in the center of the room and swiftly swallows down the potion. He turns to Sirius and tosses the empty vial to him before muttering the incantation. Almost instantly his body begins to shift, his fingers elongate and his body starts to cover itself in hair. After a couple more seconds we can see the animal he has become.

After a couple moments I turn to Sirius, "Is his animagus really a silver wolf that looks similar to his werewolf?"

Sirius and Peter both nod, "he's not going to like this," I say softly.

"So Moony, how'd you like turning into a wolf?" Sirius asks once he shifts back. "Pretty ironic don't you think?"

Remus glares at him. "I am never shifting into that ever again. It's too much like what I have to shift into." He grabs another vial and shoves it into Sirius' hands.

Sirius freezes for a seconds and looks incredulous. "You want me to go next?"

"You made the smart ass comment," Remus states before sitting down.

Sirius quickly gulps the potion and transforms into a large black dog. We all start laughing when he walks up to Remus and growls in his face before shifting back.

Remus hands the next vial over to Peter and it takes Peter longer to shift since he seems to be less confident. While we wait, I come up with a great idea. "We need nicknames," I state.

"We are the Marauders," Sirius says, "what other nicknames do we need?"

Remus thinks for a second, "I agree, you call me moony to refer to my werewolf. You all need nicknames to go for your animagus."

"Exactly!" I exclaim.

Out of the corner of my eye I see a small animal scurry towards us, "Seriously Peter, a rat?" I ask.

He shifts back, "Is there something wrong with a rat?"

"Absolutely not," Remus answers for me. "You will be most useful for helping you all get to the Shrieking Shack."

"I heard what you were saying about nicknames and I think we should put them on the Marauders Map instead of our real names in case someone were to find it," Peter says while Remus tosses me a vial.

"Fabulous idea mate," I say before swallowing the potion. As I mutter the incantation a weird sensation flows over me. Everything begins to tingle like it's falling asleep before a sense of electricity comes through. My eyesight begins to change and I feel a large amount of pressure on the top of my head. Within a matter of seconds I'm standing on all fours and notice I have hooves.  I look up and see shock on all of their faces so I shift back quickly.

"Good looking stag," Sirius says nodding.

"Thank you," I grin. We all had pretty good guesses at which animal we would be from our patronus so I am very glad that they were all correct.

"So I believe we were talking about nicknames," Remus says drawing us back to the previous conversation.

"Right, well Remus is Moony, of course," Sirius shrugs.

Remus looks at me for a second and I can tell he is contemplating something. "So you are a stag," Remus thinks out loud.

"Yes Remus he is," Sirius says confused. "I think that was quite obvious."

"Oh shut it. And stags have antlers which can sometimes be call prongs. I think Prongs would be an good nickname," Remus continues while glaring at Sirius.

"Excellent idea mate!" Sirius exclaims. "The nickname corresponds to a specific animal but is general enough that no one would figure it out."

"PADFOOT!" Peter shouts pointing at Sirius.

"Shushh," we all hiss at him.

"Sorry," Peter whispers.

"It's okay," Sirius says, "I like the name though." Peter grins and settles himself back in the chair.

"I think we should name you Wormtail Peter," Remus says. "Your tail is a unique feature and it was pink."

He smiles and nods.

Remus pulls the map out of his bag and quickly adds our nicknames onto the map. "All complete," he grins.

We sit there laughing and shift into our animals. Even Remus who swore he would never shift ever again. After a while of goofing around Padfoot and Moony run over to the fireplace and fall asleep in front of it. Peter and I shift back and laugh at them. "Oh wow," I say looking at the clock. "It's almost 1 am, I say it's time for hot chocolate."

I head to the kitchen to get hot chocolate and while I am making it an owl knocks agains the window. I walk over and open the window and grab the letter attached to its leg. The letter has my name writtten on it. "Who is sending me a letter this late at night?" I rip it open and hastily reply. I run back into the living room and grab the shirt before leaving. "I hope this helps you Lily," I whisper as I attach the shirt and my response back on the owl. "Hurry back to her," I tell the owl as I reopen the window.

I walk back into the room and see that Remus and Sirius had shifted back but were still asleep. "I think we should go to bed," I whisper to Peter.

"Agreed," he mutters before walking over to wake up Remus while I wake up Sirius.

We somehow get them to wake up and all traipse up the stairs and disappear into our rooms. It takes only a few seconds before we all fall sound asleep.
