Remus' POV

"Why does it feel like the days keep getting longer?" Sirius asks as we climb the stairs to our dorm Friday night. Sirius has been right that we've been getting a lot of homework but surprisingly it was less than I expected. I mean there was still a good amount of it but I finished it during free period with Lily and Mack. Its two weeks into the semester and McGonagall just finished covering animagus. Tomorrow, Lily and I are preparing to study in the library for a test McGonagall said we are going to have on Monday.

"I don't know Sirius but we need to start finishing up this map and Animagus thing. We've put it off all week," James says when we enter the dorm.

"No, we haven't. We have discussed it every night. And you lot should instead worry about this exam," I mutter.

They ignore me and keep talking. "All we need is some ingredients," Sirius says quietly as we pass by some 2nd years walking down the stairs.

"And a book with the instructions," Peter adds.

James nods and motions to Peter, "He's right. Where could we get all that stuff." He pauses for a moment as Sirius and him share a look. "We'd have to steel it."

"No stealing." I say firmly. "Just because you don't respect that I'm a prefect doesn't mean I don't. I will turn you in if you start stealing."

Sirius sighs, "Fine." He pauses outside of our room. "What about Mackenzie? Her mother is the transfiguration professor and an animagus. She might know some stuff about it."

Peter shakes his head at the same time as me, "Do we have to include her?" Peter looks around at all of us. "She's only been here for a few weeks. Do we trust her?"

"I'd trust her with my life," James says confidently walking into our dorm room. He always has a gut feeling about these things. Ever since freshman year, he somehow always knows if someone can be trusted or not. "Plus, she's good at potions, did you guys see her in class the other day with making the Draught of Living Death? She's as good as Snivellius if not better."

Peter and I exchange another look which James catches. "I might not like the guy but you have to admit he's pretty damn good at potions."

"So are you," I say softly, "you'd bet us all if you actually applied some effort."

James shrugs, "I don't want to be a potioneer like my grandfather and my father used to be."

"She's also good at transfiguration," Sirius says changing the subject. "Minnie is her mom and if Minnie does have any books Mackenzie would have access to them."

I sigh, "How about we think about it? She'd ask a lot of questions that I don't want explained."

James nods. "And we respect that. We could initiate her into the Marauders first then if you feel comfortable..." he trails off.

Sirius laughs, "You already told her she was a Marauder, James."

"I didn't say that!" James shouts jumping off his bed, "You did."

Those two keep arguing over who said Mackenzie is going to become a Marauder while I hear something scratching against our door. "Do you all hear that?" I whisper as I walk over to the door. Of course, I get no answer from them.

I open the door and see a small silver kitten run into the room. The kitten jumps on my bed and lays down. I slam the door and growl at the cat. I'm a werewolf, and for some reason that makes me not like cats so much. I go to shove it off my bed when it shifts.

"Mack!" We all exclaim. "You're an Animagus?!"

"Good evening to you too! Now if you will excuse us, I need to steal Remus from you all. I believe you all have some homework to do and if you need help mine is in my bag," she says quickly while placing her bag on my bed. She grabs my arm and pulls me out of the room. "Remus, I have to shift to go back downstairs so make sure you follow me, okay?" She turns back into the kitten and runs down the stairs. I sprint down after her and through the portrait hole.
