"Sorry (y/n), you won't be using your voice for a few days" Mira said, "try asking one of the members for help, it'd be best if you had someone be like... like a translator for you" she added, I nodded to her as a silent thank you and went immediately to your best friend, Freed Justine, "I... n-need, help" you hoarsely groggled out, "what the hell happened to you" he laughed, you glared at him and he swung his arm around you. "You look like someone who needs help, MY help, is that right?" he teased, you rolled your eyes and walked to get Bickslow's help, "no no no I swear I'll help you" he laughed, pulling you back, you rubbed your throat, "ooh you can't talk" he nodded.
"Ok come on bestie, lets go tell the guild members" he smiled, you walked around the guild telling people you wouldn't be able to talk for a while. You glared at Freed when you got to Laxus, "what the hell is happening between you two?" he asked, "(y/n) wanted you to know she finds you hot" Freed said and made a run for it. You frantically shook your hands and head before you chased Freed, being the guy he is he let you catch him, you hit him repeatedly on the back, "oh come on I was supposed to just NOT prank you?" he asked, you nodded angrily which made him pat your head. "Youre so cute when you're angry" he teased making you swat his hand away, "come on, lemme make it up to you" he smiled, "let's get some cake, didnt Mira say it was like, a drained magic thing? So technically eating wouldn't affect it right?" he rambled, you smiled and nodded, seeing how flustered he got, "l-lets go" he shook it off and took your hand, dragging you to the nearest cake store.
You wrote out 'thank you' with the chocolate frosting on your plate and showed it to Freed, "don't thank me, I'm your best friend for a reason" he said as he fed you a piece of cake, you smiled and accepted it, "hey you know what we should do?" he asked, you raised your eyebrow and tilted your head, "play a game of who can be quiet, first one to talk loses" he teased again. You got angry and stood up, walking away from the table before he laughed and hugged you from behind, "I love you~ platonically~" he cooed as he swayed you back and forth, "when... I can, talk, you—" you started, before you swiped your hand across your neck, he smiled and rested his chin on your shoulder, just smiling up at you, you avoided his gaze because he tended to make you cave in to a lot of things when he made that face.
"Ok, ok, fine, let's um... no majic... lets go to uh, let's just go home and play games or something" he said as you smiled, laughing to yourself as you went back to your home with Freed, you sat on the floor with your back against your bed, the controller in your hand as you swerved back and forth as if you were your fighting character in real life. Freed laid upside down on your bed, head beside yours, "the blood is rushing to my head and it's making this hard" Freed said as he pulled himself up and looked at the screen and continued to play, "I should just let you win right?" he asked, you glared back at him and then quickly back at the tv. "Hey do you know how long you're gonna be mute? I kinda miss your sassy remarks" he pouted, "actually, no I take that back" he added with a smile as he leaned over you, "but it's kinda fun, sticking with you all the time" he said sweetly, you scoffed and leaned your head back to get a closer look at him.
"Sorry you're going through this, glad Mira caught the magic deficiency now" he apologized, you nodded, "I'll make sure to keep a better eye on you, to make sure this doesn't happen again" he assured you, in that moment it didn't feel like Freed was your bestfriend, it felt like he was something more. You reached up and cupped his cheek, before you pulled him down and pressed your lips on his, it took only a few second before you pulled away and realized what you just did, Freed did too. He quickly scrambled to get onto the floor beside you and held your face in his hands, pulling you close and kissing you softly, more genuine and gentle, this was wrong, Freed was your bestfriend and he has been since you were kids. But it felt so right, like he completed you, when you pulled away the two of you didn't lose eye contact, "I-I should get going" he said and quickly rushed away, leaving you, LITERALLY, speechless.
• one week later •
"So Freed~ you miss my sassy remarks? Or do you miss my lips more?" you teased Freed as you followed him around the guild hall, "we don't talk about it" he said without looking at you, "oh come on Freed why do you keep avoiding it?" you asked, still chasing him, "(y/n)!" he yelled, turning around, "yes?" you cooed, he dragged you upstairs into one of the spare rooms. "I cant, I cant risk losing our friendship over a kiss" he panicked, "one, we kissed twice, and two, who said it was at risk?" you asked, walk-in over to him, you saw how nervous and anxious he was, so you hugged him, "I've told you from day one I love you, and I still do, but it went from loving you like a friend, to a brother, then back to a friend, and then a lover because incest isn't right" you said making him laugh as he sniffled.
He turned around and looked at you, "I love you" he whispered, you smiled, "I know" you nodded, "I love you too" you added, smiling brightly, Freed smiled as he wrapped his arms around you, lifting you up over the floor and spinning you around like in the movies. "And don't worry Freed, best friends always stick together, you'll never lose me."
