The dinner date was over quicker than Brett liked, and after Eddy had paid for their meal they were on their way to the hotel.

Brett couldn't help but notice how off Eddy felt as they walked down the street towards the hotel. He didn't smile and kept putting the hand that wasn't held firmly in Brett's in his pocket every once in a while before quickly pulling it out again. His whole energy felt uneasy, and it made Brett nervous.

"Eddy?" Brett asked as they passed the flower shop again. He felt Eddy tense up next to him, and it honestly made him feel like he had dine something wrong.

"Do you want to just... Take a walk?" Eddy asked instead of answering properly. Brett furrowed his brows.

"I mean, if you want to?" Brett said, sounding unsure. He could feel Eddy's clammy hand change it's grip on his, and turned to look up at him.

"Yeah, if you don't mind. I uh... Just thought it could be... Romantic?"

Brett stopped them as they turned into the street their hotel was on, making Eddy look at him.

"What's wrong?" he demanded, a clear worried look on his face. Eddy swallowed hard.

"No, no. It's nothing," Eddy said, trying to make his face do one of the smiles that normally made Brett's knees weak. It looked and felt off. "Why would anything be wrong?"

Brett sighed and shrugged.
"You feel off, and I feel like I did something wrong."

Eddy's face visibly fell and it just made Brett feel worse. It had been a nice evening, and now he just made Eddy feel bad about it.

"I'm sorry," Eddy mumbled, running a hand through his hair. He looked almost like he was about to cry, but didn't. "Do you want to go back to the hotel instead?"

"No, no, Eddy, I'm sorry. I'm probably just overreacting, I don't know. I'm sorry I ruined our perfect evening."

"I already did, Brett, don't worry about it," Eddy sighed, shrugging. "Let's just go to the hotel."

"YOU ruined the evening? Don't be silly, Eddy, it was perfect! I'm probably ju..."

"I was gonna propose to you, but I chickened out, okay?" Eddy interrupted him, causing Brett to freeze.

"What?"

"I was gonna propose."

Eddy stuck his hand in his pocket and took out a small, dark blue ring box. He didn't open it, just showed the box itself.

Brett forgot how words worked as he laid eyes on the box, his jaw dropping lose. It felt like his heart was going to flutter out of his chest and the butterflies in his stomach tickled him like crazy.

"But I ruined it by never finding a good time to do it, and now I even ruined the surprise of it. I'm sorry I fucked it up, Brett."

"Holy fuck you were gonna propose," Brett exhaled, feeling almost dizzy at the realization. Everything made sense now. Eddy disappearing to "get breakfast" when he never got out of bed early if he could help it? His sudden descision to go out to an insanely expensive restaurant for a date out of the blue and then it even being reserved? The touches to his left ring finger, his nervous smiles, his clammy hands.

Eddy just shrugged, turning his gaze down to the ground they were standing on. That was, until Brett pulled him into a tight hug.

"God, Eddy, how did I get to deserve you," Brett mumbled against Eddy's shoulder. It took a second before Eddy realized what was happening and slowly moved his arms around him.

"I tried to make it perfect for you like you always do for me. You know, since we talked about starting a family and all," Eddy said, lips touching the side of Brett's head as he spoke. "But if I haven't ruined it too much, maybe you'll marry me anyway?"

"Of course I do," Brett said, touching Eddy's lips gently with his. "Actually, I can't imagine anything I want to do more than that."

"Thank fuck," Eddy laughed, his arms still resting gently around Brett, who couldn't help but smile at how relieved Eddy looked.

"But you're gonna propose properly, aren't you?" Brett asked, raising an eyebrow with a teasing grin playing on his lips. "Like get down on one knee and a little speech the whole spiel?"

"Do you want me to?"

"It would be nice, but you don't have to. I'll marry you anyway."

His heart rate sped up again when Eddy took a step back, taking a hold of his hand.

"I know that it's gonna sound a bit cliché, but I kind of always knew it was you or nobody," Eddy began, his voice getting a bit shaky with nerves despite Brett already having said yes. "I love you so much, I'm not even sure if it can be described in words how much I do, but I just want a future with you, and maybe even one day a little family?"

Brett felt himself getting more choked up as Eddy spoke, and when he got the ring out and got down on one knee he nearly lost it.

"So, Brett, love," Eddy said, looking up at him as he presented the ring. "Will you marry me?"

Words disappeared and his voice failed him, but he nodded as tears of joy ran down his cheeks. He let Eddy slide the simple gold band onto his left ring finger, a perfect fit, before standing up.

He had barely gotten to his feet before Brett threw himself around his neck and pressed their lips together in a kiss.

"You're so sweet, you know that?"

"I know."
