As the carriage came to a stop, Lina, Lucy, Danny and Cedric bundled out the carriage and ran into the castle, hands over their heads to protect them from the rain that was petting down.

"I'm fucking soaking" Lucy complained shaking her arm, the water from her robes flying around.

"Language Miss Blakley" Professor McGonagall reprimanded looking over at the group for a second, then she turned her attention to the other students.

Lucy huffed and still soaking wet trudged into the great hall making a small squelching sound as she went. Danny snorted a laugh as they followed.

The group of four settled down at the Hufflepuff table and Lina looked up at the teacher's table, only three were empty Hagrid's, Professor McGonagall's and the seat that belonged to her uncle only last year the Defence Against the Dark Arts position. "Who'd you think is going to be the new Dark Arts teacher?" Lina asked looking away from the table and to her friends.

"I don't care who it is anyone but Snape," Danny said looking at the Snape and then the empty chair with a look of disgust on his face.

"I am not looking forward to dealing with him this year" Lina sighed thinking about how not even a year ago she attacked Snape to try and save her dad and uncle. Lina didn't regret doing it, not one bit but she knew Snape would hold a grudge.

"Just knock him out again" Danny suggested shrugging.

"Please do," Lucy said.

"If the opportunity presents itself," Lina said.

"Are you trying to get yourself expelled?" Cedric asked from his position next to Lina.

"No" she replied, "but if I did at least I'll get to leave school with you."

Just then the great hall doors opened and silence fell. Professor McGonagall walked in leading a long line of first years up to the top of the hall. All the new students looked like they had swum across the lake to get here, they were shivering and looked terrified as they came to a halt, facing the three-legged stool with the sorting hat on top of it.

The hat was still for a moment and then a tear that resembled a mouth opened and the hat broke into song

A thousand years or more ago,
When I was nearly sewn,
There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose name are still well known.
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Screwed Slytherin, from fen.
They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,
They hatched a daring plan
To educate young sorcerers
Thus Hogwarts school began.
Now each of these four founders
Formed their own houses, for each
Did value different virtues
In the ones they had to teach,
By Gryffindor, the bravest were
Prized for beyond the rest,
For Ravenclaw, the cleverest
Would always be the best,
For Hufflepuff, hard workers were
Most worthy of admission,
And power-hungry Slytherin
Loved those of great ambition.
While still alive they did divide
Their favourites from the throng,
Yet how to pick the worthy ones
When they were dead and gone?
Twas Gryffindor who found the way
He whipped me off his head
The founders put some brains in me
So I could choose instead!
Now slip me snug on your ears,
I've never yet been wrong,
I'll have a look inside your mind
And tell where you belong!
