TW: mention of past self-harm, mention of past suicidal thoughts

"Connor! What a lovely surprise! Come on in, honey."

"Thank you, Ms. Hansen." He said as she ushered him into the living room.

She patted a spot on the couch. "Sit, sweetheart." Connor obeyed and sat next to her. "Is there a reason you stopped by? I thought you'd be out shopping with Evan and Jared for your Disney trip."

"I wanted to ask you something."

"What, Connor?"

He shifted in his seat. "Well, I had an idea for when the five of us go on our trip, but I needed to ask you first. I bought something for Evan seeing as we've been together since high school and I though that in Disney I could ask h-"

"Yes, Connor."

"Wait, what?"

Heidi took Connors warm, tan hands in hers. "The way you're going with this, it sounds like your asking for my blessing to propose to Evan, and if you are, then my answer is yes."

"Really, Ms. Hansen?"

"Connor, let me tell you something. When you two became friends in 7th grade, he was so happy. He was so used to just having Jared that he didn't really know how to talk to anyone else. In high school, now that's when he started getting worse. There were days where he didn't eat, he didn't sleep, and there was one night when he was a sophomore, I'll never forget this, but it was the night I found a razor blade under his mattress. I think if you two never started dating, he would be here anymore. So yes, Connor, you have my blessing." Connor was stunned. He knew that she'd say yes, but he never really understood how much the both of them had changed over the years.

"You know what, it's funny. There were times I thought I wouldn't make it this far, but every time that happened, I'd look over at his smiling face and realize how lucky I was. I guess we saved each other."

"Do you have the ring?"

Connor pulled out a velvet box, and inside, a ring with two diamonds on top with their anniversary engraved inside. He handed it to Heidi.

"I'm gonna ask him in front of the castle. I know he loves the fireworks so I'll do it before they start."

Heidi wrapped him in a hug. She got what she always wanted for her son, someone that loves him. "I'm so happy for you two!"

"Thanks, Ms. Hansen."

"I love you, Connor. Evan's very lucky to have you."

"I love you too, and trust me, I'm way luckier to have him."
