"I'm bored."

"Well then what do you want to do, Jared, I'm not gonna listen to you complain anymore."

"I don't know."

"Then look something up on your phone." Connor said, becoming annoyed with Jared's constant complaining.

The group had fallen silent once more as Jared searched the internet for something the five of them to do. Then, after what seemed like an hour of scrolling, he found the perfect activity.

"Alright losers, I found something to do."

"Should we be scared?" Evan asked, detaching himself from Connor's arm.

"Probably, acorn. 'Kay, listen up, the game is called Pick Up Lines-"

"Why is it called pick up lines?"

"I'm getting to that, dipshit," he laughed, "Person A starts off by saying a cheesy pick up line and person b responds with a rejection comeback, and it goes back and forth. The first person to be stumped loses, and you get ten seconds to respond. Now, which couple shall go first?"

"Connor and Ev." The girlfriends said in unison.

Connor swore under his breath as Jared let out his usual devilish laugh.

"Alright, now, let's place some bets."

"Bets for what?" Heidi asked, emerging from her bedroom.

"Oh, hey Ms Hansen. We're playing the game Pick Up Lines and we're betting on who's gonna win, care to make a bet?"

"What the hell, why not! I'm guessing it's between Connor and Evan?"

"Yeah, whoever you think can stump the other and say the best line or rejection." He explained.

Everyone chose their sides; Alana and Zoe taking Connor's and Jared and Heidi taking Evan's. The two took their place on the wool rug and stared into each other's souls.

"Alright, Evan starts the game in three... two... go!"

"Hey, can I buy you a drink?"

"No, but I'll take your cash." Connor thought for a second before saying his first line. "How are you so beautiful?"

"Uh... I must have been given your share."

Ten minutes in, everyone had started laughing so hard that they could barely breathe, and the two boys were still going strong. That was, until, Evan had cornered his boyfriend.

"I looked up beautiful in the thesaurus today and your name was in it." Connor sat there, so silent that you could hear a pin drop.

The other four started chanting down. "Five... Four... Three... Two... One!"

"Times up, Evan wins," Jared cheered, "alright, pay up you two."

While Jared gladly accepted the cash, Heidi was hesitant, but took it after the girls insisted they didn't need it.

"You guys wanna go to À La Mode before the other two take their turn?" Heidi offered, reviving cheers which signaled agreement.

The kids thanked her as they pilled into the minivan (although they only needed two rows, it was the cheapest option at the time.)

Heidi smiled. She wasn't perfect, neither was her son, none of them were, because nobody's perfect (pobodys nerfect) but they were happy, and that's all they needed.
