It has come out that they were being forced to breakup by one of their companies. The two never officially broke up and were fighting the company behind it. Fans all over the world have been fighting alongside them as well as NCT and Angel Sins, other groups have also stuck by them. A statement made by Serenity points out exactly which company was behind they're supposed breakup
