Chip was stubborn. Of course he knew this, despite acting as if he was the most agreeable guy around. Usually he was! He liked to think of himself as pretty laid back and easy going. But then Lizzie came back into his life. Complete curveball.

He was happy about it, sure. More so just happy at the fact that he wasn't the only one who survived, so his hopes for Arlin and the others being somewhere out there too were seeming less and less impossible of a theory. The only bad thing about Lizzie being back was that she was suddenly proposing war. Against the navy. The fucking navy! Chip was one for crazy ideas or not completely thought through plans. But a fight up against the navy? Against tons of ships and well-trained and much more prepared fighters? No shot. They'd all die in an instant. Besides, why fight in a war if you can simply avoid it?! No war, no more losing people, no more stress. That was Chip's current plan. It was actually going pretty well.

Except from the fact that Gillion was spending more time around Lizzie, John and Caspian...

If it were just John and Caspian, Chip would understand. Gillion had seemed pretty eager about John the second they all met him back on Zero. The second John changed career paths and became a pirate? Chip had never seen Gillion more happy. Every single time he thought he figured out how Gillion actually felt about the ex-navy soldier, he seemed to get shrugged off whenever he tried to ask. But that was fine, Chip didn't care. Gillion can like whoever he wants. No problems here.

Then came Caspian. Same kind of story, really...Gillion saw Caspian at the Paramount Tournament, though Gillion had mentioned vaguely about meeting before that. The second Gillion saw the other blue-skinned man, he was eager to try and fight him, though not in a normal blood-lusted way that you would expect in a tournament. More so in a very curious about how strong an attractive guy is. So yeah, same story as John more or less.

So again, Chip could understand if Gillion was spending time with John or Caspian, or both. They all seemed to get along pretty well, and it was nice to see Gillion talk with another triton. It was no secret how much Gill missed his home...

When he found out that Gillion was spending time with Lizzie too? That concerned him, especially when Caspian mentioned the navy's probable move to threaten the undersea...Chip couldn't miss the sudden wave of worry and protectiveness on his face. It was understandable, of course. But Chip couldn't help but struggle to hold back his annoyance at Caspian's note. The second the undersea was mentioned as a potential target for the navy's take over, Chip knew Gillion would be there fighting to protect his home. He's Gillion Tidestrider. Of course he'd fight in an impossible war to be this Hero or Champion or whatever...There was no dout that Lizzie was probably telling Gillion and her two crewmates about her shitty plan to take on the shitty navy with her shitty weapons and-

"Chip...? Are you alright? Your room door is...wide open. This is unlike you to simply...sit on a bed and stare into nothing...Has something happened while I was gone?"

Gillion's uncertain tone broke Chip out of his concerned inner monologue, making him look up at the unarmoured Gillion who was standing in his doorway. Chip had to admit he had just kind of...opened the door lazily and sat on his bed, not bothering to shut it or anything. It took Chip a few seconds to speak, the way his voice cracked and was much more tired than expected surprising both himself and Gillion.
