"Really?" I asked as my vehicle rolled to a complete stop.
"We were almost there." I growled, getting out of the car and lifting the hood.
Not good.
I scanned over the car's different parts, which I know absolutely nothing about.. Maybe if I let the car cool off it'll start back.
After shutting the hood, I turned around and got back into the car to read my map to see exactly where I was.
Approximately thirty miles away from Noah's community. I think.
Great. Just great.
It's late anyway, and I'm exhausted.
I got back out of the car and shut the hood before getting back into the car. I locked the car doors and leaned my seat back.
My heart stopped, hearing a tapping sound on my trunk. I slowly raised up and peeked in the rear view mirror, finding a man waving at me.
I slowly lowered myself back down and pulled my pistol from the holster around my thigh. I dropped the empty magazine before quickly reloading.
"It's okay! I'm not going to hurt you." The man stated, now a few feet away from my door.
"Who are you?" I asked, rolling down the window a tiny bit.
"I'm Aaron. I'm a recruiter from a community not far from here— Alexandria Safe-Zone." He answered, reaching into his large backpack.
I slowly got out of the car, still holding my pistol as I shut the door.
"Know anything about cars?" I inquired.
"Not really, but is it okay if I take a look?" He asked.
"Uh, sure." I replied.
"Here." He offered a brown paper bag.
"What is it?" I asked, hesitant to take it from him.
"It's a gift from Alexandria." He answered, still holding it out to me.
"Uh, I don't want it." I replied, trying to control my rude facial expression.
"I understand." He replied, nodding his head.
"Eric, where are you?" He asked, holding a walkie-talkie in his hand.
I quickly spun around, realizing there could be others hiding around.
"It's okay. Don't worry. It's just me and Eric out here." Aaron stated.
"Who's Eric?" I asked.
"My boyfriend. We're both recruiters for Alexandria." He answered.
"Oh." I replied, trying to calm my nerves.
"Well, looks like your engine is locked up. Dry as a bone!" He declared, checking the oil dipstick.
"Great." I muttered, putting a hand to my head.
"Where are you heading?" He inquired.
"Well, there's a community not far from here. Shirewilt Estates?" I replied.
"Oh, man. I'm sorry to be the one to give you the bad news, but that place fell months ago." He stated. My heart sunk and anxiety began to flow in as I realized my group could be anywhere.
Or maybe he's lying.
"How long have you been alone?" He questioned.
"Well, I'm behind my group. I was going to meet them there. I left Georgia a little while after they did. About two weeks after they did, actually." I replied.
