Wei Wuxian was walking on the street lost in her thoughts. Her pace changed with every other thought that crossed her mind. Sometimes increasing with anxiousness then decreasing with uncertainty, halting with sudden realisations and striding again with steps of determination.
Her mind was a chaotic mess, filled with memories of the past, unsolved mystery of that fateful night she lost her everything, the pressure of her being a Saviour with no defined role or guidance, the weight of fulfilling the task given by Elder A'yi to find other pieces of Yin iron before Wen Rouhan and keep them out of his reach safely, words of Liu Shan, number of days remaining before Wen Chao made it to the Dafan Mountain and their own possibility to reach the Temple of Dancing Goddess before the Wens.
Lan Zhan and Youling jie were walking right behind her, matching Wei Wuxian's random pace silently, too sure that their presence by her side was already forgotten. But somehow they were mutually aware of not disturbing Wei Wuxian whenever she was serious and silent.
They learnt by experience that a serious Wei Wuxian is a dangerous Wei Wuxian.
Too susceptible to almost all kinds of emotional fluctuations. Be it sad, angry, brooding, planning, predicting, creative and much more. Those few silent minutes were the times when Wei Wuxian's brain worked far more actively than it does at almost any time of the day. Although the result of leaving Wei Wuxian alone to her thoughts hasn't always been favourable and often led to a number of unpleasant and frustrating situations but it had no doubt always resulted in some great solutions to their problems. So the side effects of such silence were something Lan Zhan learned to handle in the past few months.
Wei Wuxian was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even hear the low, guttural noises, huffs and faint barks approaching her direction from a nearby alley. It wasn't until a pack of seven to eight dogs came extremely close and barked and growled in her direction, probably out of curiosity at the strangers' presence in their area and extremely contrasting black robes among the shades of whites, yellows and purples, did she come back to her senses, her eyes widen, her body trembling and paralyzed with terror as she screamed, "JIEEE!!! LAN ZHAANNN!!!! HELP MEEEE!"
At once Lan Zhan was standing right in front of her. His strong broad back blocked her view as Lan Zhan glared at those monsters and pointed his Bichen at them. Too scared to think properly, Wei Wuxian threw herself on Lan Zhan's back, wrapped her leans arms around his neck, strong legs around his waist and clung to him desperately as if her life depended on it. And quite literally it did too.
But just then the rescuer Lan Zhan became the one needing to be rescued, from himself.
It all happened almost simultaneously. The moment Lan Zhan heard his Wei Ying's terrified scream, he jumped into action and came to stand right in front of her, protecting her from whatever was making his ever-so-brave Wei Ying feel this scared. He only had a second to frown in confusion looking at those, far from a threat to an accomplished cultivator, dogs before he was engulfed in the arms of the most beautiful being on earth, his Wei Ying.
Lan Zhan stood frozen. He felt as if his heart drumming loudly inside his ribcage and his broad chest moving up and down to facilitate breathing was the most ridiculous action at the moment. Lan Zhan was too scared to even release his breath that might interrupt or even end this precious moment earlier than intended.
His whole body hummed with pleasure bearing the warm comfortable weight of his Wei Ying though he would've much preferred it to be in his arms instead of on his back. His skin burned with need and desires he often lived in his dreams but would prefer dying before voicing them to his adorable Wei Ying. In those few seconds, instead of comforting his Wei Ying, Lan Zhan closed his eyes and selfishly focused his senses on feeling all that he could, take all the warmth he could from his Wei Ying.
